My ears are recently full of joyous remarks from my friends such as, “oh, Beckham is so handsome, so cool, that I can’t help falling in love with him!” or “what perfect skills he has!” Yeah, I agree   21  some degree, though I sometimes do want to ask them how much they     22  Beckham, apart from his appearance and how much they know about football     23  scoring goals. If we don’t go deeper and just satisfied with superficial(表面) things , ___35__we will find that we have not really gained anything ___36__ our first impression had blinded and misled us, and we’ll remain ignorant___37___ we realize that and make some changes.
It is believed that thinking and going deeper than before is sign of great___38___. If one day we are willing to go deeper into everything, no matter how much it _39___us, we will finally prove how much we have grown up, how much more sensible, mature, and intelligent we have __40__.

One cold night, I was growing sick of my life in San Francisco. There I was walking home around one o’clock in the morning after a  1 practice at the theatre. With the opening night only a week away, I was still learning my lines by heart. I was having   2 handling my part-time job at the bank in the daytime and my acting at night at the same time. As I walked, I thought seriously about  3 both acting and San Francisco. I had  4 too much of city life.
As I walked down the  5 streets under the tall buildings, I felt very small and cold, so I began  6 both to keep warm and to keep away from any possible robbers. Very few people were still out except a few homeless people under blankets.
About a block from my  7 , I heard a sound behind me. I   8  quickly, half expecting to see someone with a knife or a gun. The street was empty. All I saw was a shining streetlight. Still, the noise had made me  9 ,so I started to run faster. Not until I reached my apartment building and unlocked the door did I   10 what the noise had been. It had been my wallet  11 to the sidewalk.
Suddenly I wasn’t cold or tired anymore. I ran out of the door and back to where I’d heard the noise. Although I searched the sidewalk   12 for 15 minutes, my wallet was nowhere to be found.
Just as I was about to quit the  13 , I heard the garbage truck stop to the sidewalk next to me. When a voice came from the inside, “Alisa Camacho?” I thought I was dreaming. How could this man know my name? The door opened and out jumped a small blonde man with an  14 look in his eyes. “Is this what you’re looking for?” He asked, holding up a wallet.
It was already 3 a.m. by the time I got into bed. I couldn’t get much sleep, but I had got my wallet back. I also had got back some  15 of city life. I realized the city couldn’t be a bad place as long as people were willing to help each other.

The second step -- expressing regret, is to   39     with the other person our regrets for the things we have done or said that might have caused him or her  40 This requires humility (谦逊), and the   41  to let go of our own pride. Perhaps, later, he can share his feelings  48  we can understand him more deeply. If a strong  49   arises in us while we are expressing our suffering,  we should simply  50  and come back to our breathing until the emotion becomes   51 The other person can  52  us by following his breathing until we are ready to continue. We can enjoy practicing "Beginning Anew" with our partner, our family, or our friends  53 By doing this, we will    54   misunderstandings from accumulating. Rather, we will take care of them as they arise,  55  we take care of our children.

“How did you do it, Dad ? How have you   21   not to take a drink for almost 20 years? ”It took me almost 20 years to have the  22  to even ask my father this very  23 question.
When Dad first 24  drinking, the whole family was on pins and needles  25  he got into a situation that, in the past, would have started him drinking again. For a few years we were  26  to bring it up for fear that the drinking would begin again.

I 36  opened the book to the page of my birthday to see what words of wisdom this book had in store for me. 37  of disbelief and appreciation rolled down my face. There,on my birthday ,was the  38  poem that had helped my  39 for all these years! It is called The Sereniry Prayer.
God,give me the Serenity(平静)to accept the things I cannot change, the Courage to  40  the things I can,and the Wisdom to know the difference.

Do you want to live with a strong sense of peacefulness, happiness, goodness, and self-respect? The collection of happiness actions broadly categorized(把…归类) as "honor" help you create this life of good feelings.
Here's an example to show how honorable actions create happiness.
Say a store clerk fails to charge us for an item. If we keep silent, and profit from the clerk's mistake, we would drive home with a sense of sneaky(卑鄙的) excitement. Later we might tell our family or friends about our good fortune. On the other hand, if we tell the clerk about the uncharged item, the clerk would be grateful and thank us for our honesty. We would leave the store with a quiet sense of honor that we might never share with another soul.
Then, what is it to do with our sense of happiness?
In the first case, where we don't tell the clerk, a couple of things would happen. Deep down inside we would know ourselves as a type of thief. In the process, we would lose some peace of mind and self-respect. We would also demonstrate(演示) that we cannot be trusted, since we advertise our dishonor by telling our family and friends. We damage our own reputations by telling others. In contrast, bringing the error to the clerk's attention causes different things to happen. Immediately the clerk knows us to be honorable. Upon leaving the store, we feel honorable and our self-respect is increased.  Whenever we take honorable action we gain the deep internal rewards of goodness and a sense of nobility(高尚).
There is a beautiful positive cycle that is created by living a life of honorable actions. Honorable thoughts lead to honorable actions. Honorable actions lead us to a happier existence. And it's easy to think and act honorably again when we're happy. While the positive cycle can be difficult to start, once it's started, it's easy to continue. Keeping on doing good deeds brings us peace of mind, which is important for our happiness.
小题1:According to the passage, the positive action in the example contributes to our_______.
A.self-respect B.financial rewardsC.advertising abilityD.friendly relationship
小题2:The author thinks that keeping silent about the uncharged item is equal to_______.
A.lyingB.stealingC.cheatingD.advertising
小题3:The underlined phrase "bringing the error to the clerk's attention" means_______.
A.telling the truth to the clerkB.offering advice to the clerk
C.asking the clerk to be more attentiveD.reminding the clerk of the charged item
小题4:How will we feel if we let the clerk know her mistake?
A.We'll be very excited.B.We'll feel unfortunate.
C.We'll have a sense of honor.D.We'll feel sorry for the clerk.

A.How to Live TruthfullyB.Importance of Peacefulness
C.Ways of Gaining Self-respectD.Happiness through Honorable Actions
Willy, a merchant, returned home to his own country from a faraway continent, where he had succeeded making a small fortune by hard work. He found on arriving at the port that all his relatives were having a large party.
He was in such a happy mood and in the joy of the moment, he did not even bother changing his grey flannel(法兰绒)suit which had become a little worn during the trip home.
When he entered the brilliantly lit room, his relatives and friends gave him a rather cold welcome because they had noticed his modest suit and immediately imagined that he had come back a poor man.
A young man who happened to be accompanying him was quite irritated at this and said to Willy, “What a wonderful reception you have received from these people. They have not even the intention of shaking your hand after all these years that you have been away from home.”
“Just wait and see!” whispered Willy, “They will soon change their looks!” Saying this he slipped a precious ring on his finger. All of a sudden the faces of all those present lit up and immediately Willy was surrounded by so many people that he didn’t know what to do. A man shook his hand, a cousin threw his arms around him, and he had so many invitations from the people present that he thought he would be unable to make any other appointments for several years.
“Has this beautiful, precious ring of yours the power of magic people?” asked the young man.
“Oh, no!” replied Willy, “They see in this glittering diamond ring something that makes them think I am rich, and, unfortunately, they place wealth above everything else.”
"What blind people!" exclaimed the young man. “It is not the ring that has drawn them to you but their desire for riches. Is it possible to appreciate more a piece of yellow metal surrounded by little stones than the goodness of my Lord? And indeed how foolish are people who place their trust in riches rather than in virtues(美德)!”
