第二节 读写任务 (共1小题, 满分25 分)
阅读下面的短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。
It was the end of my first day as a waitress in a busy New York restaurant. My cap had gone away, and my feet hurt. The loaded plates I carried seemed to be heavier and heavier. Tired and discouraged, I didn't seem able to do anything right. As I wrote out a check for a family with several children who had changed their ice-cream order a dozen times, I was ready to quit. Then the father smiled at me as he handed me my tip. “Well done”, he said, “you're looking after us really well.” Suddenly my tiredness disappeared. I smiled back, and later, when the manager asked me how I’d like my first day, I said, “Fine!” Those few words of praise had changed everything. Praise is like sunshine to the human spirit; no flower can grow without it. And yet, most of us are only too ready to apply to others the cold wind of criticism; we are unwilling to give our fellows the warm sunshine of praise. Why---when one word of praise can bring such benefit?
In fact, to give praise costs the giver nothing but a moment's thought and a moment's effort but will reward both the giver and the recipient(接受者) with a happy day. Let’s learn to give credit(赞扬) to people around us.

The Power of Praise

One possible version:
The writer, once encouraged by the praise of a customer when she was about to give up her job, realized the magic of praise. But not many people are ready to give credit to others.
This is true with the people around me. Though people are pleased to receive praise, they are not accustomed to expressing their appreciation of others’ effort and achievement in their presence. We Chinese are considered to be reserved in this respect.
In my opinion, we should never grudge giving our praise and gratitude in our daily life since it warms us up and helps build our confidence and interest in things that we are engaged in. I can well remember the encouraging smile on my teacher’s face when I made some progress and was praised in class. How powerful the praise was! Math used to be my worst subject but with the teacher’s encouragement, I changed my attitude and became confident and now I am doing fine in the subject.
Since praise can work magic, let’s get ready to give it as well as get it every day.

According to Shenzhen Daily, the city’s vehicle population has reached over 1 million and 80 percent of the vehicles are private cars.
Nowadays more and more families own private cars. Private cars, as the product of modern civilization, have been playing a vital role in people's daily activities. Firstly, private cars are a convenient means of transportation. You can go wherever you like. Secondly, there is no doubt that private cars will have a great impact on the economic growth. The rapid car industry growth will contribute much to keeping the country's economy growing at a higher rate in the near futrue.
But every coin has two sides. The development of the private cars will bring about a series of problems. For example, the polluted air given off by cars will do great harm to our health, too many private cars will lead to traffic jams and a great deal of energy will be wasted and so on.That is why many people suggest we should go cycling in the city instead.
However, I think that the advantages of owning a car outweigh the disadvantages. Therefore, it seems to me that China should increase its output of automobiles and enlarge the private car market. We should take advantages of private cars and make them serve us better. Meantime ,we hope that satisfactory solutions to these negative problems will be found soon.

There is a growing debate about the most effective way for students to study.  Traditionally studying alone was thought to be the best way to ensure good exam results. When studying alone you can focus your mind better than when you are with others. You also have the freedom to choose what topic to study and when, as you don't need file agreement of others. Students that prefer to study alone often say that when they study with their classmates they waste a lot of time because the discussion is often about non-study topics such as television or holidays.
In the last few years, however, more and more students have started studying in groups. There are several reasons many students prefer this method. First, they find that studying is more fun as they can share the experience with others rather than staying in their rooms.  In groups, they can discuss the subject together and when something is not understood they can ask each other questions. They can use the knowledge of their classmates to help improve their own knowledge.  Finally by discussing the topic they are able to both understand and remember it better.
