题目内容
Taking a math test can be pretty stressful. Even if you know the material, you can still get the problem wrong. Knowing how to go through your math test and check your work can save you from handing in a test full of mistakes that can be avoided. 【小题1】
Write it out
You can also check a math problem by writing everything out on paper. 【小题2】 Writing out math problems reduces your chances of missing anything to the lowest possible level, which is a common cause of incorrect answers.
【小题3】
Make sure your answers work by doing the opposite procedure of what your problem calls for, including the answer you got the first time around. In other words, you would use the opposite of this addition problem—subtraction (减法)—to determine whether or not your answer is the correct one.
Plugging in
You may find that a variable isn’t good enough or have a problem where you have to solve for a variable (变量). 【小题4】 This is the only real way to assure yourself that the answer you’ve found is correct.
Check for a reasonable answer
【小题5】 For example, if you get an answer in the millions and you know it should be in the thousands, you’ve likely misplaced a point. Go back through the work on your paper to make sure all of your formulas (公式) and calculations are correct. If everything looks okay, do the problem again and compare the result of the second try to what you’ve got on the first try.
A.Do the opposite |
B.Correct the answers |
C.Therefore you’ll improve your grades, as well as your math skills. |
D.Plug the variable in the equation (方程) to check it out. |
F. It also helps you to figure out everything after you have already finished the test.
G. This helps you to know what information you have and what information you need to solve.

Our bodies are wonderfully skillful at keeping balance. When the temperature jumps, we sweat to cool down. When our blood pressure falls, our hearts can do something. As it turns out, though, our natural state is always changing.Researchers are finding that everything from blood pressure to brain function changes regularly with the cycles of sun, moon and seasons. And their insights (洞察力) are getting new ways for keeping away such common killers as heart disease and cancer.Only one doctor in 20 has a good knowledge of the scientific use of time in medicine. But according to a new American Medical Association, three out of four are eager to change that.“The field is exploding,” says Michael Smolensky.“Doctors used to look at us like, What spaceship did you get off ? Now they're thirsty to know more.”
In medical school, most doctors learn that people with chronic conditions should take their medicine regularly.“It’s a terrible way to treat disease,” says Dr Richard Martin. For example, asthmatics (气喘患者) are most likely to suffer during the night.Yet most patients try to keep a constant level of medicine in their blood day and night, whether by breathing in on an inhaler (吸入器) four times a day or taking a pill each morning and evening. In recent studies, researchers have found that a large mid afternoon dose of a bronchodilator (支气管扩张剂) can be as safe as several small doses, and better for preventing nighttime attacks.
If the night belongs to asthma, the dawn belongs to high blood pressure and heart disease.Heart attacks are twice as common at 9 a.m.as at 11 p.m.Part of the reason is that our blood pressure falls at night, then rises as we start to work for the day.“Doctors know that,” says Dr.Henry Black of Chicago's Medical Center, “but until now, we haven't been able to do anything about it.” Most blood - pressure drugs provide 18 to 20 hours of relief (减缓).But because they’re taken in the morning, they're least effective when most needed.“You take your pill at 7 and it's working by 9,” says Dr.William White of the University of Connecticut Health Center “But by that time you've gone through the worst four hours of the day with no protection.” Bedtime medicine would prevent high blood pressure, but it would also push blood pressure to dangerously low levels during the night.

Facebook means never having to say goodbye. The social media website has earned a reputation for reconnecting old friends. Last week, a guy whom I hadn’t seen since my bachelor party five years ago sent me a friend request. I accepted and waited for “Easy E” to send me a greeting of some kind. He had sought me out, after all.
I learned from his profile that he was in a relationship and had a son. However, I’m pretty sure we won’t ever write wall-to-wall, let alone e-mail each other. But he’ll remain a friend of online until one of us makes a point of removing the other from his official list.
My pool of friends consists of family members, college buddies, co-workers from past and present, and friends of friends. There are 35 in all. If I spent some time uploading old e-mail addresses, I’m confident that I could increase my friend count actually.
A person could make a mission out of reconnecting with childhood friends, former classmates, distant cousins, and those one would like to get to know better. And some people can even handle hundreds of on-screen relationships, keeping up with the daily happenings of their small army of companions. After all, there are worse fates than having too many friends.
Thanks to e-mail, the inability to schedule face-to-face meetings no longer means a friendship must come to a close. But even with e-mail, people will lose touch if one or both parties stop writing back. That’s normal. People move from school to school, job to job, city to city. You never have to feel guilty for breaking away.
Every day, the masterminds of Web 2.0 find new ways of making human communication easier. However, convenience can be a walking stick. Some things shouldn’t be simplified. When it comes to friendship, there can be no shortcuts.

A few years ago a group of salesmen went to a meeting in Chicago. They had assured their wives that they would be home in plenty of time for Friday night’s dinner. In their rush, with tickets, one of these salesmen happened to kick over a table which held a display of baskets of apples. Apples flew everywhere. Without stopping or looking back, they all managed to reach the plane in time for their boarding.
All but one stopped, took a deep breath and experienced a twinge(刺痛)of sorrow for the girl whose apple stand had been overturned. He told his friends to go on without him, waved goodbye, and told one of them to call his wife when they arrived and explain his taking a later flight. Then he returned to where the apple stand had been overturned. He was glad he did.
The 16-year-old girl was totally blind! She was softly crying, tears running down her face. The salesman knelt on the floor with her, gathered up the apples, put them into the baskets, and helped set the display up once more. As he did this, he noticed that many of them had become damaged; then he set them aside in another basket. When he had finished, he pulled out his wallet and said to the girl, “Here, please take the $20 for the damage we did.” He continued, “I’m sorry for what we did and hope we didn’t spoil your day too badly.”
She nodded with her tears. As the salesman started to walk away, the blind girl called out to him, “Mr. ...”. He stopped, and turned back. She continued, “Thank you very much”.
