How do you deal with plastic bags from the supermarket? Throw them away or recycle them? How about eating them?

The bags are no harmful to the environment. Humans and animals can safely eat them. Indian company EnviGreen has made a bag with natural materials. It looks and feels just like plastic ,but can be broken down(·Ö½â) easily.

Ashwath Hedge who set up the EnviGreen company spent four years doing experiments(ʵÑé) with 12 natural materials. They include potato, corn, vegetable oil and banana. He made the materials into liquid and used the liquid to make the bag.

Although the EnviGreen bag is more expensive than a common plastic bag, it has many advantages .According to the Wall street Journal, it takes 1000 years for common plastic bags to break down. But an EnviGreen bag can naturally break down in less than 180 days. It also breaks down in less than a day in water, and in less than a minute in boiling water. Hedge was happy to show it in his interview: he put an EnviGreen bag in water and ate it with a smile.

There are more than 15,000 tons of plastic waste in India every day. But only 9,000 tons are processed. In China, 3 billion plastic bags are used every day. Maybe EnviGreen bag could be a solution(½â¾ö°ì·¨)to the world problem of plastic pollution.

¡¾1¡¿According to Paragraph 2, we can know the following EXCEPT________

A. the EnviGreen bag can break down easily.

B. the EnviGreen bag is made from natural materials.

C. the EnviGreen bag can be eaten by humans and animals

D. the EnviGreen bag is a little bit harmful to the environment

¡¾2¡¿The main idea of the third paragraph is ¡°_________¡±

A. What Hedge thinks of the new bag B. How Hedge makes the EnviGreen bag

C. Who sets up the EnviGreen bag company D. How long it takes Hedge to make the bag

¡¾3¡¿The underlined sentence in Paragraph 4 shows that the EnviGreen bag ______

A. is safe and can break down quickly B. is useful although it is more expensive

C. looks and feels like a common plastic bag D. will be used more widely than a common bag.

¡¾4¡¿The EnviGreen bag breaks down fastest in________.

A. hot air B. cold water C. boiling water D. natural air

¡¾5¡¿From the last paragraph ,we can infer(ÍƶÏ)_________

A. all of India¡¯s plastic waste is processed

B. India has the most plastic waste in the world

C. China produces more plastic waste than India

D. the EnviGreen bag may help solve the problem of plastic pollution

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿What Does the Length of Your Fingers Say About You?

Are you the peace-loving type or the ambitious go-getter? Your finger length might be a clue. Take a look at your fingers. Would you believe me if I told you that the length of your fingers in relation to one another can predict your personality? I know that it sounds like one of those silly tests you see on Facebook, but I have to admit that it is exactly correct for me. Here¡¯s how it works.

Look at your three middle fingers of your hand. Is your index finger longer than your ring finger? Is your ring finger longer than your index finger? Or are the two of the same length? Find the situation that best matches your hand and see if what follows is an accurate description of your personality.

Longer ring finger: The Sweet Talker

If your ring finger is longer than your index finger, research shows that you¡¯re likely a charming type, and you can probably talk yourself out of any situation. Others often find this personality type irresistible and will go to great lengths to help you. You¡¯re more likely to take risks, and you¡¯re good at problem-solving. People in this category make great engineers, soldiers and crossword-puzzle solvers.

Longer index finger: The (Over) Confident One

If your index finger is longer than your ring finger, chances are you are full of confidence¡ªpossibly even to the point of being over-confident and proud. You are not necessarily introverted (ÄÚÏòµÄ), but you do enjoy time to yourself, especially when you¡¯re trying to complete a project. You are a dream pursuer who can make things happen, but you may be shy when it comes to taking the first step in a relationship. You are also probably happy with what you have, but you¡¯re always wishing for more.

Index and ring finger are of the same length: The Peacemaker

If your index finger and ring finger are roughly of the same length, you are likely to avoid conflict at all costs and seek to keep the peace in your relationships. You are well-organized, faithful and sympathetic. But deep down under all of that caring and peace-loving, you also have a hot-tempered side that can appear unexpectedly when you¡¯re pushed too far. You will try your hardest to avoid a fight.

How well do these descriptions match your personality? I was surprised at the accuracy in my case, but I¡¯m not going to tell you which one it was!

¡¾1¡¿Which of the following hand could be an engineer¡¯s hand?

A. B. C. D.

¡¾2¡¿We can learn from the passage that the author ______.

A. is very charming and helpful B. always tries hard to avoid a fight

C. often takes silly tests on Facebook D. thinks the descriptions suit him well

¡¾3¡¿What does the passage intend to tell us?

A. How accurate the description of the test is.

B. The length of fingers can reveal personality.

C. Why your fingers are not of the same length.

D. Personality is determined by your finger length.

¡¾4¡¿Where can you probably find the text?

A. A popular magazine. B. An official report.

C. A public advertisement. D. A biology textbook.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿In 1885, the Republic of France, important friend during the American Revolution, donated the largest statue in the world, Liberty Enlightening the World, to the United States of America. The statue would celebrate its century of independence. To ship it, the statue was broken down into 350 pieces. And now, spread across Bedloe¡¯s Island in New York Harbour, it sat in 214 wooden packing boxes. The problem was that New York had no money to re-assemble it. Six other cities, less affected by the recent economic decline, had the money and bid to build it.

But a Hungarian immigrant, Joseph Pulitzer, the owner of America¡¯s biggest newspaper called the World, wouldn¡¯t let ¡°Liberty¡± go. When he heard that the Statue of Liberty was about to die from lack of funds, he saw his chance.

Pulitzer set the fund-raising goal of the World at $ 100,000. In its pages he laughed at the rich, thus increasing the paper¡¯s appeal among working-class people, and firmly planted the idea that the statue was a monument not just for New York City but, indeed, for all of America.

Perhaps Pulitzer¡¯s cleverest trick was the promise 10 publish the name of every single contributor in the pages of the World, no matter how small the contribution. The editorial that opened the fund-raising campaign set its tone. He wrote: ¡°The World is the people¡¯s paper and it now appeals to the people to come forward and raise the money for the statue¡¯s base.¡± The statue, he said was paid for by ¡°the masses of the French people. Let us respond in like manner.¡± The circulation of the World increased by almost 50,000 copies.

African American newspapers joined in the effort, encouraging their readers to contribute to a monument that would, in part, celebrate the end of slavery. So the money poured in, as single-dollar donations from grandmothers and pennies from the piggybanks of schoolchildren.

On August 11, 1885, the front page of the World announced, ¡°ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS!¡± The goal had been reached, even slightly beyond, thanks to more than 120,000 contributions.

¡¾1¡¿What does the underlined word ¡°re-assemble¡± (Para. 1) probably mean?

A. Put together. B. Take apart.

C. Transport. D. Repair.

¡¾2¡¿Which of the following was the greatest move in Joseph Pulitzer¡¯s success?

A. Attacking the rich people.

B. Celebrating the end of slavery.

C. Printing every contributor¡¯s name in the World.

D. Persuading children to donate their pocket money.

¡¾3¡¿What did Joseph Pulitzer try to convey to his readers about the Statue of Liberty?

A. It was a symbol of independence.

B. It was a monument for the whole USA.

C. It was a wonder in the building history.

D. It was a favor from the rich French people.

¡¾4¡¿What was the main purpose of Joseph Pulitzer¡¯s efforts?

A. To protect the Statue of Liberty.

B. To win working-class readers over.

C. To expand the circulation of his paper.

D. To raise money for the Statue of Liberty.
