  Text 3

  Text 4

M:I know what you mean.Sometimes people are not what they seem.

  Text 5

W:It certainly has been a pleasure seeing you again and renewing old memories.

M:I've had a nice time and I really want to thank you for spending so much time showing me the sights.

W:Oh, it was fun for me, too.It gave me the chance to get away from my everyday work and do something a little bit different.

M:You'll be out to see us the next year, then, as you promised?

W:Oh, yes. That's our present plan unless something bad comes up.We should be there sometime in early September.

M:Did you say Chicago? My wife is flying home from Boston.

W:Flight 962 takes off in Boston but makes a scheduled stop in Chicago.

  M:Oh, I see.Sorry to get so excited.It's just that…

W:Relax, sir.I understand.Your wife will be here safe and sound in an hour.

  Text 8

M:Julia, you tell us not to go to college, why? Was it about money?

W:Well, I don't want to say here that I was too poor to go to college. But the fact is we didn't have the money, though, my mom probably could make enough somehow.I probably could work harder in school and get better grades. So it's really that I didn't get to go to college.I have wished to go back to school every other week.It just wasn't my path.

M:At that time, did you feel like you were missing something?

W:My best friend went off to university. And I just remember every time I talk to her, it all sounded so fun and so great. And here I was selling tennis shoes, then getting on the bus everyday to work in the town.We both thought the other person's life was so much more exciting.I was trying harder to make enough to pay for my own flat every month. That's seemed so exciting to her.And she was talking about studying for finals and going to parties, and I thought it got her so perfect.

  Text 9

W:Mr.Charkas.First congratulations to you.Your country has won the European Football Cup.

M:Yes, we Greek reached the top finally.

W:What do you think are the important reasons for your success?

M:Let me see…unlike some national teams, their players play in different countries. They need time to train together, but most of our players are playing in the Greek League. We know each other; and good communication in and out of field is one of the reasons for our success

  W:And what else helps you?

M:Um…A football game is a kind of teamwork. We can't only depend on the big star in the field. We are working like one engine.

W:What role does your German coach play in your team?

M:Well, he's great. He helped us to study and learn from other teams. But the so-called strong teams thought it was worthless to study the Greek team. When they realized that, it was too late.To speak honestly, the biggest reason for our victory is that some strong national teams didn't play well.

W:Thank you for accepting my interview.Again congratulations.

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

On September 22, 1986, Jay Brunkella, a police officer in the Rogers Park district in Chicago, was shot during a drug arrest and died. Shortly afterwards, fellow officer Ken Knapcik, a 20-year veteran(老警官)of the force, returned home after work to find a note from his 15 year old daughter on the dining table.

Dad—This poem came directly from my heart. I love you so much! It scares and amazes me that you go out every day and risk everything to provide us with all that we have. I wrote this to express how much I love you and how much lost I’d be without you ---Laura. PS: Hey, let’s be careful out there.

Titled The Ultimate Cop, Laura’s poem was dedicated “To all the cops in the world who have daughters who love them with all their hearts. And especially to my dad”. It was about a police officer’s daughter who sees on the night time news that her father has been shot. Part of poem: “Daddy, my Daddy, can you hear me cry? Oh, God, I need my Daddy, please don’t let him die.”

Ken Knapcik stood alone as he read the poem. “It took me several minutes,” he said. “I’d get through part of it and have to stop before I could go on. I was weeping. She had never told me she was scared.” He took the poem to work the next day and showed it to his fellow officers. I’ve never seen so many grown men cry. Some couldn’t finish it.”

Knapcik keeps Laura’s poem in the pocket of his police jacket. He takes it with him every time he leaves the house for a new shift. “I don’t want to be out there without it,” he said. “I’ll probably carry it with me forever.”

   A. to treasure her daughter’s love and to value his own life
