We all know that we have to eat to live, so it is important for us to develop healthy eating habits. The following tips may help you.

1. Take a hard look at your eating habits. Do you eat more when you feel stressed? Do you withhold food from yourself in order to feel like you’re in control? Carefully think about whether you have an unhealthy emotional attachment to food.

Drink plenty of water. 2. Drink water during and after meals to aid digestion (消化), and try to drink between 2 and 3 liters (升) per day.

3. Ideally, you should eat three meals per day, with two snacks in-between. Doing this allows you to eat slightly less at your meals, giving your body a more manageable amount of food to digest.

Don’t skip breakfast. 4. Research shows that people who skip breakfast are usually fatter than those who eat a well-balanced breakfast.

Eat slowly. Have you ever gorged (狼吞虎咽) on a huge meal and felt fine immediately after, but suddenly felt like exploding 15 minutes later? This happens because it takes some time for your stomach to tell your brain that it’s full. 5. That way, by the time you get the message and start feeling satisfied, you haven’t eaten too much extra food.

A. Have a healthy attitude towards food.

B. Choose the right food to eat.

C. Eat 5 times per day.

What Is Emotional Eating?

Emotional eating is when people use food as a way to deal with feelings instead of satisfying hunger.__1.__ Have you ever finished a whole bag of chips out of boredom or downed cookie after cookie while preparing for a big test? But when done a lot — especially without realizing it — emotional eating can affect weight, health, and overall well-being.

Not many of us make the connection between eating and our feelings.

_2.__ One of the biggest myths about emotional eating is that it’s caused by negative feelings.Yes, people often turn to food when they’re stressed out, lonely, sad, anxious, or bored. But emotional eating can be linked to positive feelings too, like the romance of sharing dessert on Valentine’s Day or the celebration of a holiday feast.Sometimes emotional eating is tied to major life events, like a death or a divorce.__3.__

Emotional eating patterns can be learned: A child who is given candy after a big achievement may grow up using candy as a reward for a job well done.__4._ It’s not easy to “unlearn” patterns of emotional eating. But it is possible. And it starts with an awareness of what’s going on.

We’re all emotional eaters to a degree. But for some people emotional eating can be a real problem, causing serious weight gain or other problems. The trouble with emotional eating is that once the pleasure of eating is gone, the feelings that cause it remain.__5.__ That’s why it helps to know the difference between physical hunger and emotional hunger.

Next time you reach for a snack, wait and think about which type of hunger is driving it.

A.Believe it or not, we’ve all been there.

B.If a crying boy gets some cookies, he may link cookies with comfort.

C.One study found that people who eat food like pizza become happy afterwards.

D.And you often may feel worse about eating the amount or type of food you like.

E.Understanding what drives emotional eating can help people take steps to change it.

F.Boys seem to prefer hot, homemade comfort meals, while girls go for chocolate and ice cream.

G.More often, though, it’s the countless little daily stresses that cause someone to seek comfort in food.

Doctor Seuss was the name used by Theodor Seuss Geisel, who was famous because of the books he wrote for children. They combine funny words, funny pictures, and social opinion.

Theodor Geisel was born in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1904. After graduating from Dartmouth College in 1924, he spent a year studying literature(文学) at Oxford University in England. When he returned to the United States in 1927, he hoped to become a writer of serious literature. But the economic depression(经济萧条) in the United States delayed his dreams of becoming a serious writer. In 1937, he wrote his first book for children, which is called “And To Think I Saw It on Mulberry Street.” However, a number of publishers refused to accept it. They said it was too different from ordinary books. A friend finally published it. Soon other successful books followed. Over the years he wrote more than forty children’s books, which were fun to read. Yet his books sometimes dealt with serious subjects including equality, responsibility and protecting the environment.

Doctor Seuss had a strong desire to help children. In 1954, Life magazine published a report about school children who could not read. The report said many children’s books were not interesting. Reading the report, Doctor Seuss decided to write books that were interesting and easy to read. To make his book easy to read, he used words with the same ending sound, like fish and wish.

In 1957, Dr. Seuss wrote “The Cat in the Hat”, in which he used less than two hundred twenty-five words. This was the number of words a six-year-old should be able to read. The book was an immediate success. Children loved it. Their parents loved it, too. Today many adults say it is still one of the stories they like best. The success of the book made him want to write more books for children. He started a series called Beginner Books, which remain well liked among children today.

In 1984, Mr. Geisel won a Pulitzer Prize for children’s literature. At that time he had been writing children’s books for almost fifty years. He was honored for the education and enjoyment his books provided American children and their parents, and his influence remains through the books he wrote. Experts say his books helped change the way American children learned to read.

1.What was Theodor Geisel’s dream when he returned from England?

2.What did Theodor Geisel decide to do after he read the report published in Life magazine?

3.Why did Theodor Geisel finally set his simple writing style?
