"Remember, your father is only one year older than you." That was Mom's usual excuse when Dad said the1 things or did something foolish.
Dad2 drinking exactly one year before I was born.He3  a group of other people who had also stopped drinking.I loved my dad but I4 the way his weekly meetings took him away from me.It seemed they were more 5  to him than I was.But with my6  coming up I thought Dad would make an exception."Can" t you7  it just this time? Saturday is my birthday! " I begged him.He8 , "I'm chairing the meeting this Saturday. We will have your party on Sunday."
Saturday evening I sat on my bed, feeling 9  for myself.Dad started to leave, then10  and said, "Why not come with me tonight? It' s an open meeting. All are 11 ." What would I do at a meeting? But maybe I needed to see why something Dad did every week   12 so much。
After we arrived, Dad announced the13 of the meeting was going to be gratitude."Today I'm 14  seventeen years of stopping drinking, " he continued."One year after quitting drinking I received the most 15  gift of my life, my daughter.I'm so grateful that she has  16  seen me drunk." Shame washed over me.
Later, a man called Dave also told his17.Only then did I know it was Dad that saved his life from drinking.Dad was the18he was at the meeting that day.Showing up week after week and  19 with people, Dad was changing lives.I was so20  of him.

In 1990 a report was published about what the earth might be like 20 years from then on. The report was a result of a three-year 1.
According to the report, the picture of the earth in the year 2010 is not a 2one. The world will be more 3 because the population will continue to grow . The population could be 4 6 300 million, almost 2 115 million more than in 1985 .More people would move into cities, especially cities in 5 countries . Cities like Cairo and Jakarta probably would 6 have 15 million by then .
Food production will 7 , but not enough to feed all the people . Farmers will grow 90% more food than they did in 1985, 8 most of the increase would be in countries that
9 produce enough food for their people . Little increase is 10 in South Asia, Africa and the Middle East . Poor farming ways are 11 large areas of crop land, changing farms into deserts . More farmland is 12 as cities become larger and more houses are built .13 will get worse as industrial countries burn more coal and oil .Many of the world’s 14 could disappear as more and more trees are cut down . Energy will continue to be a serious problem . The experts say their picture of the earth for the year 2010 15 . They only carried out the situation that 16 today . By changing the situation, by 17 the problems, the picture can be changed . There is 18 time for the nations of the world to work 19 a plan of action . But they warned that 20 too long to make decisions would greatly reduce the chances of success .

As a music teacher,I have always known that music touches the soul. It can 1all kinds of barriers to reach students in a very special way.It can be the 2for each child to find their light.I would like to 3a story about it.
For a few years I was 4with the opportunity to teach disabled students. One of my most 5 students was a five-year-old girl called Vanessa, who had difficulty walking, and could not speak. We 6sat on the floor for our music lessons and Vanessa liked to 7 on my lap.One of her favorite songs was John the Rabbit. It was a call and response song where I sang the call and the students 8 twice while singing the repeating phrase,“Oh,yes!” Vanessa liked to 9her hands together with mine and clap with me.We probably performed that song during every class,Vanessa and I clapping together. But she 10 said or sang a word.
One day, when the song was finished,Vanessa turned around,11me in the eyes, clapped her tiny hands twice and said the words“Oh,yes!” I opened my mouth in 12 and for that moment I was the one who could not speak. When my heart 13 started beating again,I looked over at the assistant teacher to find her also 14.Through music,we had made an awesome connection.
Several years later,I met Vanessa on the street in town. She waved with a big 15 on her face and then clapped her hands twice, imitating the song we had 16 so many times in our music class. The little girl,17 her connection with music, left an impression on me that will last forever. Every child has the 18 to learn and grow. It is up to us to 19 the way to reach each and every one of our students. We all must find each child's 20.

Monty Roberts owns a horse ranch(牧马场) in San Ysidro. He told us his story. As a senior, he was asked to write a 1about what he wanted to be and do when he grew up.

That night he wrote a seven-page paper2his goal of someday owning a horse ranch. He wrote about his dream in great3and he even drew a diagram of a 200-acre ranch, showing the4 of all the buildings.
He put his heart into the5and the next day he handed it in to his teacher. Two days later he received his paper back. On the front page was a large red F with a note that 6, ‘See me after class.’
The boy with the dream went to see the teacher after class and asked, ‘Why did I7 an F?’
The teacher said, ‘This is an 8dream for a young boy like you. Owning a horse ranch requires a lot of money. There’s no 9you could ever do it.’ Then the teacher added, ‘If you will 10this paper with a more realistic goal, I will reconsider your grade.’”
The boy went home and11it. He asked his father what he should do. His father said, ‘Look, son, you have to 12your own mind on this. However, I think it is a very13decision for you.’
Finally, after sitting with it for a week, the boy turned in the14paper, making no changes at all. He stated, ‘You can keep the F and I’ll keep my15.’
Monty now owned a 200-acre ranch. He had 16his plan for a 4,000-square-foot house.
Two summers ago that same school teacher brought 30 kids to camp out on his ranch for a week. When leaving, he said17 , ‘Look, Monty. When I was your teacher, I was something of a dream18. During those years I stole a lot of kids’ dreams. 19, you had enough perseverance not to give up on yours.’”
Don’t let anyone steal your dreams. 20your heart, no matter what.

I thought my luck had run out at the end of the summer holiday. It was not the 1 of the new term that did it, but the 2 military training. My 3 nightmare(噩梦) had finally come true.
The weather was 4 hot when we were training. Sweat dropped from every part of my body. I 5 as if my mouth was going to catch fire. 6 was the only thing I could think about. It was the first time in my life that I have ever really felt 7.
However, we had to stand completely 8 all day. The drill-master(教官) were very strict with us. They only 9 us to sit directly on the ground for a few minutes. My heels ached and I had a blister(水泡) on my 10.
Believe me, this was not the most 11 part. What I couldn’t 12 most of all was the smell of the toilets. It left such a deep impression on me that I can almost smell it right now.I guess most of the other students 13 the same experience that I had. I often thought of giving up and going back home. 14, I didn’t.
One day, our PE teacher came to watch our 15 for a while. Then he 16 to join the national flag squad(队). “You movement is the best of all,” he praised me. It was so 17! I almost couldn’t believe my ears. It was a great honor to be chosen for the squad.
From that day on, I worked much harder than before because I knew I was going to 18 the national flag. Every Monday, thousands of eyes would be 19 on me. Now military training has finished and I have become a flag protector in my school. Every time I raise the flag, I know all my hard work has 20
