A feeling of excitement overcame me as I looked around the stadium.
At 5∶30 pm, two hours before game time, I walked into the locker room(更衣室).My 1 of school, music and what I planned to do on Saturday night were 2 with the simple aim to beat the football team across the field from us tonight.
Approaching my locker(衣物柜), I noticed my teammates 3 .Some rested on benches, staring up at the ceiling 4 it were a film of the opposing team’s play. Some seemed a bit more 5 , using the time to tell jokes.A few stared at the field, 6 what will happen in 120 minutes.
Our coach, Tony Severino, came out of his office at 6 o’clock. He told the team how 7 this game was for the season, between two of the state’s top teams-my school and our opposing team, Liberty High School. His words gave the team impulse(冲动)it needed to 8 .
At 7∶10 pm, warm-ups finished, we went over the game 9 and discussed what we needed to do for the next three hours. The sound of the national anthem(国歌) 10 that we were only minutes from the action. Our coach usually made a final 11 .But tonight was different. On this clear night he 12 looked around the room at all the players and shouted, “Let’s go and get them.” Even 13 the “get” came out of his mouth, we were already 14 our way out of the door.
Outside, a few young fans reached to touch our hands, eager to be a 15 of our school’s winning tradition. When I smiled and 16 my hand, the young faces lit up as if they had just met Superman.
Seconds later, the team ran onto the 17 , moving as a mass of blue, in front of a packed stadium. We enjoyed a noisy 18 from fans and the fight song played by our school band.Breathing in the 19 of one of the biggest game of the year, I felt we were sure to win.I told myself, “This was what it was all about” and 20 that it was for moments like this that I loved high school football.
I ran into a stranger as he passed by.“I’m so sorry!” was my reply. Then he said, “Excuse me too…I wasn’t even watching for you.” We were very 1 , this stranger and I.Then we went on our way after 2 goodbye.
But at 3 , a different story is told. How we treat our loved ones, young and old.Later in the kitchen, as I 4 the meal, my daughter walked up to me, very still. When I turned, I nearly knocked her down.“Get out of the way!” I 5 with a frown(皱眉).She stepped away silently, with her little heart 6 .I didn’t realize how rude I had been.
That night, when I lay 7 in bed, God’s quiet voice spoke to me and said, “While 8 with a stranger, you are calm and polite, but with those you love, you are QUICK to excite…Go and look around on the 9 floor, you’ll find some flowers there by the door. Those are the flowers she brought for you.She picked 10 up-pink, yellow, and your favorite blue. She stood there quietly and you never saw the tears in her 11 ”.
By this time, I felt sad and my own tears began to fall.I quietly went and knelt(跪)by her 12 .“Wake up, my sweetheart,” I said.“Are these the flowers you 13 for me?” She smiled, “I found them out by the tree, I wrapped them in a napkin(纸巾), just for you.I knew you’d like them, especially the 14 .” I said, “I am so sorry that I missed them today…And I 15 have shouted at you that way…”
16 , she said in a soft voice, “Mommy, that’s OK…I still love you anyway.” I hugged her and said, “I love you, too and I LOVE the flowers.”
Do you know that:if you die tomorrow, the 17 you are working for could easily replace you in a matter of days. But the family you leave 18 will feel the loss for the rest of their lives. And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into our 19 than into our families-an unwise investment(投资)indeed.

I was tired and hungry after a long day of work. When I walked into the living room, my 12-year-old son looked 1 at me and said, “I love you.” I didn’t know what to say. 2 several seconds all I could do was to stand there and 3 down at him.My first thought was that he must need 4 with his homework or he was trying to 5 me for some news. Finally I asked, “What was that all about?”
“Nothing.” He said, “My teacher said we should 6 our parents that we love them and see what they say. It’s a(n) 7 .”
The next day I called his teacher to 8 more about this “experiment” and how the other parents had 9 .
“Basically, most of the fathers had the 10 reaction as you did.” The teacher said, “When I first 11 we try this, I asked the children what they thought their parents would say. Some of them thought their parents would have heart trouble.” “The 12 is,” the teacher explained, “feeling loved is an important part of 13 .It’s something all human beings 14 .What I’m trying to tell the children is that it’s too 15 that we don’t all express those feelings.A boy should be 16 to tell his dad that he loves him.”
The teacher, a middle-aged man, understands how 17 it is for some of us to say the things that would be good for us to say.
When my son came to me that evening, I held on to him for 18 second. And just 19 he pulled away, I said in my deepest, most manly voice, “Hey, I love you, too.”
I don’t know if saying that made either of us healthier, but it did feel pretty good.Maybe next time if my child says “I love you”, it would not take me a whole day to think o f the right 20 .
