In fact, I've got a blue one, just like hers. Text 2 M: You know, my daughter was once a world champion. I'm proud of her. W: Oh, I've heard of that. M: She began to swim in 1989, and then she joined a swimming club in 1995. W: Yes I remember. She set a new world record in 1999. Text 3 M: Excuse me, but may I clean your room now? W: No. Will you please come back in about an hour? And will you press this shirt for me? M: Certainly. Right away, madam? W: Yes, please. Text 4 W: I really enjoy the tape you lent me a week ago. M: I'm glad you like it. W: Not only me. All my classmates enjoyed it, too. Would you mind if I kept it for another week? M: Sorry, I have to use it myself. Text 5 M: Do you think you could possibly work late this evening? W: Work late? M: I'm afraid there's some work we really must finish this evening. I can't possibly do it myself. W: I suppose so, if you really think it's necessary. Text 6 M: Where is Jimmy? Why hasn't he come down for breakfast? Isn't he going to school today? W: He's still in bed in his room. M: What's the matter with him? W: He's feeling terrible. I think he must have caught a bad cold. M: Well, we must call the doctor. W: Yes, we must. M: Can you remember the doctor's telephone number? W: Yes. It's 097.546.2811. Text 7 W: Can you help me, sir? M: What seems to be the trouble? W: There is something wrong with my bike. Brake, chain or something else? Will the lessons be for yourself or a child? W: They will be for myself. My son's only three and I'd like him to take piano lessons next year. M: Fine. Have you had any musical experience before? W: Well, I studied the piano for about 3 months but that was 6 years ago. M: That's good. So we don't have to start right from the beginning again. W: When can I take lessons and how much do they cost? M: Well, we have a big class that meets on Monday evenings for three hours, which costs $ 2 an hour; we have a small group that meets on Wednesday or Friday evenings for two hours, which costs $ 4 an hour. W: I'm afraid I can't make it on Mondays, but I can manage on Wednesdays. Text 10 M: Miss Kate, what time will Mr. Tanaka's flight arrive at Kennedy Airport? W: Around 2 p. m. , sir. I made the arrangements for them last week and checked again yesterday to be sure everything is ready. M: Including the dining room for tonight's reception? W: That's right. The manager assured me that everything will be exactly as we have requested. M: Excellent. I want everything to be the very best. W: I'm sure it will be. That manager has never disappointed us yet. Text 11 A lot of young people today find it difficult to get a job, especially in the first few months after they leave school. Now, look at the chart on the left, you can see that in some parts of the country 60% or even 70% of the young people in the last year of school will be without a job for a whole year after leaving school. Our Jobs Information Service Center has been in touch with thousands of young people over the last 2 or 3 years, talking to them about their hopes and their fears, and in fact, we have been able to give a lot of help and advice to young people who have just left school. Are you recently out of school and still without a job? Or are you still at school and worried about getting a job when you leave? We have found that many people don't know who to talk to and sometimes don't know what questions to ask. That is why our experience at Jobs Information Service Center is so important. It will cost you nothing — just a phone call. If you would like to talk to us, we are here to talk to you. Please phone 24987 any day between 9:00am and 5:30pm. |
