I walked into the grocery store, not really wanting to buy anything. I just wanted to stay there quietly ¡ª the pain of losing my ¡¡11 was still too great. And this supermarket held so many sweet ¡¡12 . He often came with me, and always bought me yellow roses.

Standing ¡¡13 the meat, I searched for the perfect small steak ¡¡14 my husband used to love it. ¡¡15 a woman came up beside me. I watched as she picked up a large pack of T-bone steaks, dropped them in her basket, ¡¡16 , and then put them back. She turned to go and once again ¡¡17 for the pack of steaks. She saw me ¡¡18 her and she smiled. ¡°My husband loves T-bone steaks, but they are so expensive.¡±

¡°My husband ¡¡19 away eight days ago,¡± I told her, and ¡¡20 to control the sadness in my voice, ¡°Buy him the T-bone steaks. And ¡¡21 every moment you have together.¡±

22 by my words, she placed the steaks in her basket and walked away ¡¡23 . But several minutes later she came towards me again, ¡¡24 a package in her arms. She was ¡¡25 the brightest smile I had ever seen.

As she ¡¡26 , I saw what she held. ¡°These are for you,¡± she placed three beautiful yellow roses in my hands. I wanted to tell her what the roses ¡¡27 for me, but, unable to speak, only watching her walking away.

Looking down at the roses, I wondered ¡¡28 she knew it. Suddenly the answer seemed so ¡¡29 . I wasn¡¯t alone. There were ¡¡30 many people caring for me and willing to help me. Just be thankful for what you have and who you are.

Little Bit

"Meow, meow, meow," is what I heard as I walked. I went to the noise and found there was a 36 black and white cat under a piece of wood. I picked him up and ¡¡37 he must be freezing to death. I ¡¡38 home with the cat held in my jacket.

My new best friend, who soon became known as Little Bit, received his name because he was almost ¡¡¡¡39¡¡¡¡ when I held him in my hands. He stood about five inches tall. Little Bit's small size had a great advantage -- he ¡¡40 perfectly in the pocket of my jacket, which made 41 him everywhere very easy. Any time I was home, he wouldn¡¯t leave my ¡¡42 . He was always eager to play with me. When I fell asleep at night, he would always roll up around my head to keep me ¡¡43.

¡¡ Unfortunately, I grew up. My teenage life ¡¡44 my relationship with Little Bit. I lived at such a fast pace (½Ú×à) that I stopped making time for him. My free time was spent with my ¡¡45 ¡¡¡¡ instead. I would come in the house on my phone and not ¡¡46 him at all. His meows became an annoyance to me, but it wasn¡¯t his fault that he ¡¡47 his best friend back.

¡¡ With time going by, Little Bit became 48 . His body began shutting down and by the time I realized ¡¡49 was wrong with him, he had already lost his balance. He lay there and looked at me, and ¡¡50 this day I still remember the ¡¡51 look in his bright green eyes. I took him to the vet (ÊÞÒ½), but there was nothing he could do. The last time I ¡¡52 him he wasn¡¯t the same tiny cat I had found ten years before. Little Bit filled my arms and he was put to sleep that day.

Little Bit¡¯ s ¡¡53 made me realize how much he meant to me. He was always there for me when I ¡¡54 him. I regret our last years together and I feel sorry for not always being there for him. I will always ¡¡55 the special memories we made.

That cold January night, I was growing sick of my life in San Francisco. There I was walking home
at one in the morning after a tiring practice at the theater. With opening night only a week away, I was
still learning my lines. I was having trouble dealing with my part-time job at the bank and my acting at
night at the same time.
As I walked, I thought seriously about giving up both acting and San Francisco. City life had become
too much for me. As I walked down empty streets under tall buildings, I felt very small and cold. I began
running, both to keep warm and to keep away from any possible robbers. Very few people were still
out except a few sad-looking homeless peopl e under blankets.
About a block from my apartment, I heard a sound behind me. I turned quickly, half expecting to
see someone with a knife or a gun. The street was empty. All I saw was a shining streetlight. Still, the
noise had made me nervous, so I started to run faster. Not until I reached my apartment building and
unlocked the door did I realize what the noise had been. It had been my wallet falling to the sidewalk.
Suddenly I wasn't cold or tired any more. I ran out of the door and back to where I'd heard the
noise. Although I searched the sidewalk anxiously for fifteen minutes, my wallet was nowhere to be found.
Just as I was about to give up the search, I heard the garbage truck pull up to the sidewalk next to
me. When a voice called from the inside , "Alisa Camacho?" I thought I was dreaming. How could this
man know my name? The door opened, and out jumped a small red-haired man with an amused look
in his eyes. "Is this what you're looking for?" he asked, holding up a small square shape.
It was nearly 3 a.m. by the time I got into bed. I wouldn't get much sleep that night, but I had got my
wallet back. I also had got back some enjoyment of city life. I realized that the city couldn't be a bad
place as long as people were willing to help each other.
