10.A Faithful Father
My husband kissed me goodbye,stroked the baby's cheek and then rushed out of the door,into his busy day.With the cold of the morning fading,I fed my baby and it fell fast asleep.Usually I would place it in bed and quickly have the house somewhat in (31)C.
This morning, however,I stayed seated, just (32)A,with the baby in my arms.The thoughts ran into (33)D of the mornings with my husband,a father rushing out of the door to meet the obligations of life.It was only a small jump to thoughts of my own (34)D.
My mother passed away when I was ten, and as I looked (35)C,I could see how much of a family man my dad was.He went to work every morning and (36)B to his family every evening.He (37)A food,clothing,warmth,and protection.He was a faithful father.
Setting the baby down,I dialed the (38)D number.I had just realized the (39)B of the ordinary-the daily life going on around us that we often took for granted,and that it needed to be (40)A.
"Hi,Dad."I said,(41)C back tears.
"Hey,Bud.How are you?"(42)D was in his voice.
"Fine,I'm just calling to say…thank you."I got it out before my throat (43)D too much for me to speak.
"What for?"
"For getting up and going to work every morning of my life. Now that I have my own
(44)A and I see my husband doing the same,I just wanted to thank you for being (45)B."
There was (46)C for a moment as my dad composed himself,and with a small (47)A in his voice he said,"You're welcome,Bud."
I don't remember much of the rest of the call,(48)B that moment of revelation (显露) about my father,I will never forget.There are those who are known for their heroic (49)B,and also those who are known for their fortunes and fame,but it is the (50)C everyday fathers who are the true heroes.I'm thankful that my father was one of them.

16.We don't always get a second chance to achieve our dreams. But some people are lucky, like Matthew McConaughey.Once almost unknown, the actor has recently found himself back on the list of the best actors in Hollywood. His new movie Interstellar is just another sign that his career reinvention has been an incredible success."The film relies on McConaughey's  performance to hold together the emotional story of a father and his daughter against the background of space travel and the end of the world,"Forbes commented.
But only years ago,the Texas native was often the butt of jokes (笑柄) about being too handsome. In 1993,after meeting with director Richard Linklater,McConaughey starred in Dazed and Confused. And a Hollywood career was born, mostly in romantic comedies. For a long time, the whole world believed McConaughey was just a handsome guy with comic talent.
But McConaughey stopped starring in that type of movie, and began to use his looks differently.Slowly he built up his reputation as a serious actor. In 2013,McConaughey was offered to play an AIDS activist in Dallas Buyers Club. The role saw the normally muscular actor losing 50 pounds in order to appear sick. His performance won him an Oscar for Best Actor.
The actor gave thanks to someone he has always looked up to as a hero during his Oscar acceptance speech. When he was 15,the actor said,he decided that his hero would be himself in 10 years. But 10 years later,he pushed the deadline ahead another decade. Then 10 years later, another decade."My hero's  always 10 years away,"he said."I'm never going to attain that. That keeps me with somebody to keep on chasing."Or perhaps constantly chasing the chance to be his own hero has given him a second chance to pursue his dreams.

19.Downing Street sources have indicated that the British tennis player,Andy Murray,will be Recommended for a knighthood(爵士头衔)for ending Britain's 77-year wait for a Wimbledon men's champion title.David Cameron,the British prime minister,who was in the royal box on Sunday at Wimbledon told reporters that he couldn't think of anyone who deserves one more.More news on the knighthood is surely to come,but Murray's achievement has a twist in that he is Scottish,not English.
Also in the royal box show on Sunday was Scotland's  first minister,Alex Salmond,waving the white-and-blue Scottish flag in the row directly behind Cameron after the victory.No Scotsman had won the singles at Wimbledon since Harold Mahony in 1896.Salmond was later asked on BBC Radio whether Murray's achievement had been a victory for Britain."Absolutely,and for tennis fans everywhere,"Salmond said."Let everyone enjoy the victory.But you will allow us just the little private thing.Let us wave our national flag.''
The Scottish government, headed by Salmond, has announced that Scotland will hold a
referendum(全民票)on independence from Britain in September 2014.Murray,who lives in the  London area but was born and raised in the Scottish town of Dunblane,has not said publicly which way he would vote on the issue,and his Wimbledon Championship will only mix interest in his views.
But this was a national moment.Murray's semifinal victory over Jerzy
Janowicz drew a peak television audience of 13.24million viewers,the biggest of the year in Britain.The final then topped that with a peak audience of 17.3million,the biggest audience for a Wimbledon final since at least 1990,according to the B BC.
Only one name will go on the trophy(奖杯),but tennis at the highest level has now become a team event.Murray,who once had frequent fits of anger during matches,has transformed himself into a much more focused force with the help of an extensive support group.Murray's rise to champion has clearly  something to do with his decision to hire the former number one tennis champion Ivan Lendl as his coach just before the 2012season."He's been very patient with me; I'm just happy I managed to do it for him."
Onward Team Murray goes toward a defense of the United States Open title,beginning next month,and then eventually to defending at Wimbledon next year with the British drought(干旱)  well and truly over..

A.achievement      B.knighthood  C.champion title     D.nationality
34.What does the author mean by saying"the British drought well and truly over"?D
A.Murray is concerned about the drought that struck Britain.
B.Drought in Britain will be over next year when Wimbledon is held.
C.British government's rule over Scotland will come to an end soon.
D.The British people's desire for a Wimbledon victory is fully satisfied.
