One of my friends, though with the makings of a merchant, was bent on being a painter. He resigned from office and devoted himself entirely to painting at home.Several years, however, saw no progress in this regard.

A painful retrospection(回顾)bought him to his senses. He made up his mind to take up business in place of painting. It took him only a few years to become a rich businessman.Meanwhile he spent his spare time exchanging experience and skills in painting. His works finally won acclamation(欢呼、喝彩)by expert painters and were on sale in art gallery and grand hotels. He had his collections published and his dream of becoming a painter came true at last.

答案:
解析:
Get yourself changed when facing something unchangeable

The passage tells us that a religious master and a painter tried to change themselves when they were faced with something unchangeable, and finally they both successfully achieved their original goals.(32 w)

I am in favor of the idea that we should change our attitude when we find the environment unchangeable. The stories remind me of my cousin who used to complain about English learning. He though it unnecessary to learn a foreign language and ignored it at all.As a result, he fell far behind the others in the exams. Thanks to his English teacher, he developed a good attitude after realizing how important it is to learn English well.He made up his mind to take every opportunity to improve his English, or rather day in and day out.Believe it or not, a year later, he gradually caught up with others.

As far as I'm concerned, only when we get ourselves changed when facing something unchangeable can we get what we want and become successful.(136 w)

第二节:读写任务

请根据以下任务说明和写作要求,写一篇幅150词左右的英文短文。

Teenagers’ secrets should be kept to themselves and no one else ,their parents included, has the right to stick their nose into their private life. As we know, teenagers are going through a special period of development both physically and psychologically. They are curious about and puzzled by the unexpected changes in their body and mind. What’s more, exposed to a world of adults, it is only too natural for them to begin imitating (模仿) adults’ behaviors in secret. Boys begin to smoke and girls begin to spend time doing their hair. Some even begin to date with a girlfriend or boyfriend without their parents’ knowledge. They are doing al this in secret because they are still unsure whether it is right to do so and afraid that ,if found out by their parent, they will get misunderstood and even punished. And in fact, in many cases, the parents can not deal with the matter well and hurt their children’s feelings badly, making children no longer willing to communicate with their parents. When this happens, it hurts terribly the whole family feeling. So it seems right that teenagers should keep their secrets to themselves and their parents should allow their children that right.

Reading is a good habit, but the problem is, there’s too much to read these days, and too little time to
read every word of it. There are hundreds of skills to help you read more in less time. Here are two skills
that I think are especially good.
Preview-if it’s long and hard. Previewing is especially useful for getting a general idea of heavy reading
like long magazine articles and business reports.
     Here’s how to preview.
     ● Read the first two paragraphs and the last two paragraphs carefully.
     ● Then read only the first sentence of the other paragraphs.
Previewing doesn’t give you all the details. It keeps you from spending time on things you don’t really
want-or need-to read.
Skim-if it’s short and simple. Skimming is a good way to get a general idea of light reading.
-like popular magazines or the sports and entertainment of your daily paper.
     Here’s how to skim.
    ● Get your eyes to move fast. Sweep them across each line.
    ● Pick up only a few key words in each line.
Everybody skims differently. You and I may not pick up the same words when we skim the same
piece, but we’ll get a similar idea of what it’s all about.
【写作内容】
1. 以约30个词概括你所读的这篇文章的大意;
