14.政府必须采取有效措施保护这些历史遗产不受破坏.(protect…from)The government must take active measures to protect these historical relics from being damaged.

分析 政府必须采取有效措施保护这些历史遗产不受破坏.

解答 答案:The government must take active measures to protect these historical relics from being damaged.
解析:根据所给中文提示可知,本题考查take active measures to do sth"采取有效措施做某事"及protect…from"保护…免遭…"这两个固定短语;另外需要注意的是protect…from这个短语中,from之后的动词要用动词的-ing形式.且本题中historical relics"历史遗产"与"破坏"之间是动宾(被动关系),故from后面的宾语需使用被动语态结构.

点评 本题考查句子翻译,做此类题目时一定要根据中文及英文题干确定需要翻译的成分,再找出与之对应的英文并考虑各成分是否有形式的改变.

He earned his law degree in 1781,but did not practice law until 1789.Once he started he found the law was not to his liking.Webster did not have much money.
In 1793,Alexander Hamilton lent him 1500to move to New York City to edit a newspaper.In December,he founded New York's first daily newspaper,American Minerva,and edited it for forty years.For decades,he published textbooks,political essays,a report on some diseases,and newspaper articles for his party,He wrote so much that a modern  list of his published works required 655pages.

Blind people are better at locating sounds than people who can see,a new study says, without the benefits of vision the ears seem to work much better.
Previous studies have shown that blind people are better than others at reaching out and touching the sources of sounds that are close by.Researchers from the University of Montreal wanted to see if blind people were also better at locating sounds that are far away.
Twenty-three blind people participated in the study.All had been sightless for at least 20years.Fourteen of them had lost their vision before age 11.the rest went blind after age 16.The experiment also included 10people who could see but were wearing blind-folds.
In one task,volunteers had to pick the direction of a sound coming from about 3metres away.When the sound was in front of them or slightly off center in front,both groups performed equally well.
When sounds came from the side or the back,however,the blind group performed much better than the blindfolded group.The participants who had been blind since childhood did slightly better than those who lost their sight later.
Recognizing the locations of distant sounds can be a matter of life-or-death for blind people,say the researchers.Crossing the street,for instance,is much harder when you can't see the cars coming.
Still,the researchers were surprised by how well the blind participants did,especially those who went blind after age 16.In another experiment,the scientists also found that parts of the brain that normally deal with visual information became active in locating sound in the people who were blind by age 11.These brain parts didn't show sound-location activity in the other group of blind people or in the sighted people.The scientists now want to learn more about the working of brains of"late-onset"blind people.

C.All the participants did equally well when picking sounds from whatever direction.
D.The later people become blind,the better they can perform in telling the direction of sounds.
54.What do we know about that parts of brain dealing with visual information are active in locating sounds?D
A.This happens in almost all the testers.

3.The summer I was ten,my mother decided to bring us to the world of art.My brother and I were not very excited when we realized what my mother meant. What she meant was not that we could take draw ing classes or painting classes but that we would have to spend one afternoon a week with her at the Fine Arts Museum. Before each visit to the museum, she made us read about artists and painting styles. It was almost as bad as being in school.Who wants to spend the summer thinking about artists when you could be with your friends at the swimming pool?
First,we had to read about ancient Egyptians and their strange way of painting faces and then go to look at them at the museum. My 12-year-old brother thought this was so funny, but I was not interested.Later we had to learn about artists in the Middle Age s who painted people wearing strange long clothing. We had to look at pictures of fat babies with wings and curly hair and with no clothes on flying around the edges of paintings.I certainly couldn't see what was so great about art.
On our last visit to the museum, something happened when I saw a painting by a woman called Mary.In it,a woman was reading to a child. The colors were soft and gentle, and you could tell by the mother's expression how happy she was just to be with the child.I couldn't stop looking at this painting!I wanted to see every painting Mary had ever made!It was really worth looking at so many paintings to find a painter who could interest me so much.

4.Years ago,if a teenager had some problems in his or her life,he or she might write in his or her diary.Now a teenager with the same problems might go onto the Internet and write about them in a blog.In many ways,a diary and a blog are almost the same.So,what makes a blog different from a diary?
(36)D Usually,a teenager treats his or her diary like a book full of secrets.Both diaries and blogs tell what happened to the writer that day.
I have a little sister,and sometimes I go online to read her blog.She writes about things like waking up early for swimming practice and not studying enough for her chemistry exam.(37)B Then,after I finished writing,I would hide my diary in a secret place because I was worried that my sister might read it!
Because a blog is such a public way of writing,it has both good and bad points.(38)C If I am angry with a friend during school and write something bad about her in my diary,she will never know.However,if my sister writes something bad about a friend,that friend may read her blog and get angry.(39)A.
A blog has good points,of course.(40)FPeople choose to write in blogs because they know that their friends will read what they write.If I am feeling sad one day and write in my diary,"Nobody cares about me,"no one will know about it.However,if my sister writes the same words in her blog,her best friends will quickly reply and tell her how much they like her.
If People are careful about what they write, blogs are a very good way to write about everyday life. However,I still prefer my old diary!

A.So we have to be very careful of what we write.
B.When I was her age,I wrote about the same things,but only in my diary.
C.The biggest problem with a blog is that anyone can read what you write.
D.The biggest difference is that a blog is much more public than a diary.
E.Everyone intends to keep his own secret.
F.Blogs help people stay in contact with their friends and hear what the people around them are doing.
G.When we write a diary we usually write down what we have done or how we think of others.
