Some years ago, writing in my diary used to be a usual activity. I would return from school and spend the expected half hour recording the day’s events, feelings, and impressions in my little blue diary. I did not really need to express my emotions by way of words, but I gained a certain satisfaction from seeing my experiences forever recorded on paper. After all, isn’t accumulating memories a way of preserving the past?
When I was thirteen years old, I went on a long journey on foot in a great valley, well-equipped with pens, a diary, and a camera. During the trip, I was busy recording every incident, name and place I came across. I felt proud to be spending my time productively, dutifully preserving for future generations a detailed description of my travels. On my last night there, I wandered out of my tent, diary in hand. The sky was clear and lit by the glare of the moon, and the walls of the valley looked threatening behind their screen of shadows. I automatically took out my pen….
At that point, I understood that nothing I wrote could ever match or replace the few seconds I allowed myself to experience the dramatic beauty of the valley. All I remembered of the previous few days were the dull characterizations I had set down in my diary.
Now, I only write in my diary when I need to write down a special thought or feeling. I still love to record ideas and quotations that strike me in books, or observations that are particularly meaningful. I take pictures, but not very often—only of objects I find really beautiful. I’m no longer blindly satisfied with having something to remember when I grow old. I realize that life will simply pass me by if I stay behind the camera, busy preserving the present so as to live it in the future.
I don’t want to wake up one day and have nothing but a pile of pictures and notes. Maybe I won’t have as many exact representations of people and places; maybe I’ll forget certain facts, but at least the experiences will always remain inside me. I don’t live to make memories—I just live, and the memories form themselves.

(Para. 1) | used to be a usual activity; spend… recording…; gained a certain satisfaction from seeing my experiences forever recorded on paper; accumulating memories a way of preserving the past | 背景:写日记过去是一件习惯的事儿,通过文字记录过去生活的点滴,每每看到日记的内容就有一种满足感。 |

51. D。 根据题干关键词before the age of thirteen和regarded … as … After all, isn’t accumulating memories a way of preserving the past? 故D. preserving her history为正确答案。
A. observing her school routine 和B. expressing her satisfaction,因为在第一段中均能看到,但是只是细节中一部分,而非主题句。 C. impressing her classmates
根据题干关键词 a change 和 understanding of keeping a diary定位在第三段:At that point, I understood that nothing I wrote could ever match or replace the few seconds I allowed myself to experience the dramatic beauty of the valley.所以B. The beauty of the great valley正确。
A dull night on the journey来自I went on a long journey, on my last night there, the dull characterizations,本选项干扰性极强。 D. Her concerns for future generations. At that point, I understood…③因果关系、逻辑关系的倒置,如C. striking quotation from a book.
A. A dull night on the journey,因为在第二段中出现了On my last night there, I wandered out of my tent, diary in hand,但是出题人设下了一个陷阱:dull,对文中的内容进行了篡改,故排除。D. Her concerns for future generations. I felt proud to be spending my time productively, dutifully preserving for future generations a detailed description of my travels.
根据题干关键词now和 put in her diary定位在第四节首句:Now, I only write in my diary when I need to write down a special thought or feeling.故选项B. Special thoughts and feelings.
Now, I only write in…,有的考生选D和A项,因为他们看到了:I still love to record ideas and quotations that strike me in books, or observations that are particularly meaningful. I take pictures…,其实but后面才是作者的真正想法,but not very often—only of objects I find really beautiful. C. Detailed accounts of daily activities.根据第一段首句可知writing in my diary used to be a usual activity. I was busy recording every incident, name and place I came across.
54.A。 根据题干关键词realize和to live a meaningful life定位最后一段的but at least the experiences will always remain inside me.
B. to live the present in the future I realize that life will simply pass me by if I stay behind the camera, busy preserving the present so as to live it in the future. C. to make memories I don’t live to make memories故排除。D. to give accurate representations of it可以定位在最后一段的第二句:Maybe I won’t have as many exact representations of people and places也许不再有那么多……
1. I felt proud to be spending my time productively, dutifully preserving for future generations a detailed description of my travels.
I felt proud to be spending my time …preserving…a detailed description …。Productively修饰动词spending, dutifully修饰后面动词 preserving, preserve for sb. sth.。
2. The sky was clear and lit by the glare of the moon, and the walls of the valley looked threatening behind their screen of shadows.
分析:本句中,lit by the glare of the moon省略了was, threatening是looked表语,后面的behind their screen of shadows介词短语,补充说明。
3. At that point, I understood that nothing I wrote could ever match or replace the few seconds I allowed myself to experience the dramatic beauty of the valley.
分析:本句的主干是I understood that …。 ② I allowed myself to experience the dramatic beauty of the valley也是省略了that的定语从句,还原为I allowed myself the few seconds to experience the dramatic beauty of the valley。
4. I realize that life will simply pass me by if I stay behind the camera, busy preserving the present so as to live it in the future.
分析:本句的主干是I realize that …。
5. Maybe I won’t have as many exact representations of people and places; maybe I’ll forget certain facts, but at least the experiences will always remain inside me.
