Most people believe they don't have imagination. They are wrong. Everyone has imagination, but most of us,once we became adults, forget how to access it. Creativity isn't always connected with great works of art or ideas. People at work and in their free time routinely think of creative ways to solve problems. Maybe you have a goal to achieve,a tricky question to answer or you just want to expand your mind! Here are three techniques to help you.
This technique involves taking unrelated ideas and trying to find links between them. First, think about the problem you have to solve or the job you need to do. Then find an image, word, idea or object, for example,a candle. Write down all the ideas/words associated with candles:light, fire, matches, wax, night, silence, etc. Think of as many as you can. The next stage is to relate the ideas to the job you have to do. So imagine you want to buy a friend an original present; you could buy him tickets to a match or take him out for the night.
Imagine that normal limitations don't exist. You have as much time/space/money,etc. as you want. Think about your goal and the new possibilities. If,for example, your goal is to learn to ski, you can now practice skiing every day of your life (because you have the time and the money). Now adapt this to reality. Maybe you can practice skiing every day in December,or every Monday in January.
Look at the situation from a different point of view. Good negotiators use this technique in business, and so do writers. Fiction writers often imagine they are the characters in their books. They ask questions: what does this character want? Why can't she get it? What changes must she make to get what she wants? What does she dream about? If your goal involves other people, put yourself “in their shoes”. The best fishermen think like fish!

Compared to the whole development of history, your life could be like a candle which is lit and then blown out immediately. In other words, life is short —very short. Missing any of the joys life offers is terrible.

So don’t let fears conquer your short and valuable life. If your life is being controlled by your fears, you are most certainly cheating yourself. Courage is the mental (精神上的) muscle that conquers fear. Like all muscles, the more you use it, the stronger it will become. Courage is not something you are born with. That is to say, it must be developed. It has been said that if you face the thing you fear bravely, your fear will leave you.

For years I believed that courageous people had no fear. I was wrong. Eddie Richen Bacher put it very well when he said, "There is no courage without fear." We all have fears; however, not everyone gives in to their fears easily.

There is, very likely, something you have wanted to do for years —move to another city, start your own business, apply for a better position, or go wherever you like. Whatever it is, you should do it. Remember, life is not a practice run. This is it. A little courage leads to more.

Observe those poor people who have no courage. They only tiptoe (蹑手蹑脚地走) through life, hoping they can make it safely to death. You and I never meant to live that way. Learn to live the way you like by no longer living as you dislike. Make good use of your day and have courage. That’s life!

64. We can learn from the passage that courage _______.

A. can be developed quickly                 B. needs to be used more often

C. is formed when one is born                D. makes one very excited

65. What new opinion did the author develop?

A. All courageous people have fears.           B. Those who are brave have no fear.

C. There is no fear without courage.           D. A brave person can live a safe life.

66. What would be the best title for the passage?

A. A Person’s Life Is Short                   B. Don’t Fear Anything

C. Never Give Up Easily                    D. Courage Conquers Fear

Long long ago, there was an old merchant who had three sons。 “To which one shall I leave my fortune?” he wondered。 “It must be to the cleverest son。 But which one is the cleverest?”

He called his three sons to him。 “Here is some money,” he told them, “you must each take one coin to buy something that will fill this room。 Anyone who can do this shall have my fortune。”

“It is a big room,” said the eldest son。

“One coin will not buy very much,” said the second son。

But the youngest son said nothing。 He stood and thought, and then he smiled, “Come, brothers,” he said, “let us go to the market。”

The eldest son bought straw with his coin。 But one coin bought only a bit of straw。 Even when he had spread it as much as he could, the straw covered only a corner of the room。

The second son bought sand with his coin。 But one coin bought only a bit of sand。 Even when he had spread it as much as he could, the sand covered only half of the floor。

“What did you buy?” the eldest son angrily asked the youngest son。 “You don't have any straw。”

“Yes, what did you buy?” the second son asked angrily。 “You don't have any sand。”

“I bought this,” said the youngest son。

“A candle!” cried his brothers。 “What good is a candle?”

“Watch”, said the youngest son。

He lit the candle, and all at once the room was filled from wall to wall, from ceiling to floor。 It was filled with light!

“Although you are the youngest, you are indeed the cleverest of my sons,” the old merchant said。

Beijing has started a battle to get rid of "Chinglish" (Chinese English). The "Language Mandarins" of Beijing have decided that Chinglish is a disease for China's modernizing claim and must be obliterated before the city hosts the Olympic Games in 2008.

A road sign on the Avenue of Eternal Peace (Chang'an Street) ,for example, advises: "To Take Notice of Safe; The Slippery Are Very Crafty", a warning that the sidewalk was slippery(滑). Another sign in a Beijing park reads: "Little grass is smiling slightly, please walk on sidewalk. "

Li Honghai, the city official in charge of the battle, said," Linguistic perfection (语言美) is becoming increasingly important with the rise in the number of the foreigners flowing into the city."

However, not everyone shares the disdain (蔑视) of the Beijing government for the mixed language. "The choice of words is pretty much. One can either choose the verbs, adverbs, nouns or whatever one likes," explained one Hong Kong linguist on an Internet website.

So many examples exist that several Internet sites have been set up to collect Chinglish phrases. Many come from English instructions on packages such as a candle marked with "Keep this candle out of children" and a model boat—curiously named Posh Sailboat—which means, "Please don't place it in dusty play."

If the battle against Chinglish is successful, Chinese will also turn their attention to the English-language versions of newspapers, which play an even more important role in teaching right English.

   B. all the people don't share the disdain for the mixed language

   C. Chinglish usually communicates in many cases

   D. several Internet sites have been set up to clear the Chinghsh phrases

3.We can infer that the English-language version of newspapers           .

   A. should be in duty to teach normal English

   B. should report the above battle

   C. should be paid more attention to

   D. should collect more Chinglish phrases

4.Which of the following signs is Chinglish?

   A. Watch your step. Slippery sidewalk.          B. Keep off the grass, please.   C. Tourists do not enter.                      D. No smoking, please.
