Welcome to Stockholm University Library. You can use this guide to help you use our library. Our library offers different types of studying places and provides a good studying environment.

Zones

The library is divided into different zones. The upper floor is a quiet zone with over a thousand places for silent reading, and places where you can sit and work with your own computer. The reading places consist mostly of tables and chairs. The ground floor is the zone where you can talk. Here you can find sofas and armchairs for group work.

Computers

You can use your own computer to connect to the Wi-Fi specially prepared for notebook computers, you can also use library computers, which contain the most commonly used applications, such as Microsoft Office. They are situated in the area known as the Experimental Field on the ground floor.

Group-study places

If you want to discuss freely without disturbing others, you can book a study room or sit at a table on the ground floor. Some study rooms are for 2-3 people and others can hold up to 6-8 people. All rooms are marked on the library maps.

There are 40 group-study rooms that must be booked via the website. To book, you need an active University account and a valid University card. You can use a room three hours per day, nine hours at most per week.

Storage of Study Material

The library has lockers for students to store course literature, When you have obtained at least 40 credits(学分),you may rent a locker and pay 400 SEK for a year’s rental period.

Rules to be Followed

Mobile phone conversations are not permitted anywhere in the library. Keep your phone on silent as if you were in a lecture and exit the library if you need to receive calls.

Please note that food and fruit are forbidden in the library, but you are allowed to have drinks and sweets with you.

There are a lot public holidays for Chinese people, such as National Day, May Day, and Children’s Day. But I think we should have other holiday——Farmers’ Day. For quite a long time, I think that the adults’ world is realistic in the opposite way of the children’s cartoon. However, the movies from the adult world turn out to be a made-up thing. At the very moment, I suddenly realize that movies are somewhat of the adult’s fairy tales or cartoons.

Everybody thinks we just serve food and soda. The safety training is serious and stressful. Caring for 49 people in a business class in 90 minutes is not easy. When Luke went to university he thought he would be on a new journey in life and getting his own place. In the UK, it’s common to fly the nest at a fairly young age. Many choose a flat-share; others make plans to get on the property ladder.

But the current economic situation forced Luke back to his mum’s house at the age of 27. And he’s not alone: a quarter of young adults in the UK now live with their parents. The Office for National Statistics said more than 3.3 million adults between the ages of 20 and 34 were living with their parents in 2013.

Lack of jobs and the high cost of renting accommodation made Luke change his plans. He’s upset. "There’s something very difficult about being an adult living in an environment where you’re still a child," he says. "It limits me socially; sometimes I feel it limits me professionally."

Indeed, many young people have no choice but to stay at "the hotel of Mum and Dad".
