题目内容

20.Perhaps you think you could easily add to your happiness with more money.Strange as it may seem,if you're unsatisfied,the issue is not a lack of means to meet your desires but a lack of desires-not that you cannot satisfy your tastes but that you don't have enough tastes.
Real riches consist of well-developed and hearty capacities(能力)to enjoy life.Most people are already swamped(淹没)with things.They eat,wear,go and talk too much.They live in too big a house with too many rooms, yet their house of life is a hut.
Your house of life ought to be a mansion(豪宅),a royal palace.Every new taste,every additional interest,every fresh enthusiasm adds a room.Here are several rooms your house of life should have.
Art should be a desire for you to develop simply because the world is full of beautiful things.If you only understood how to enjoy them and feed your spirit on them,they would make you as happy as to find plenty of ham and eggs when you're hungry.
Literature,classic literature,is a beautiful,richly furnished room where you might find many an hour of rest and refreshment.To gain that love would go toward making you a rich person,for a rich person is not someone who has a library but who likes a library.
Music like Mozart's and Bach's shouldn't be absent.Real riches are of the spirit.And when you've brought that spirit up to where classical music feeds it and makes you a little drunk,you have increased your thrills and bettered them.And life is a matter of thrills.
Sports,without which you remain poor,mean a lot in life.No matter who you are,you would be more human,and your house of life would be better supported against the bad days,if you could,and did,play a bit.Whatever rooms you might add to your house of life,he secret of enjoying life is to keep adding.

A.true happiness lies in achieving wealth by fair means

解答 DBCA
59.D 推理判断题.根据文章4,5,6,7段第一句"Art should be a desire for you…"和"Literature, classic literature,is a beautiful, richly furnished room…"和"Music like Mozart's and Bach's shouldn't be absent."和"Sports, without which you remain poor, mean a lot in life."真正幸福的人需要懂或者拥有:艺术,文学,音乐和运动等,而这些主要是与我们精神上的丰富有关系的.也就是说真正的幸福是精神上的富有.再联系全文最后一句话Whatever rooms you might add to your house of life, the secret of enjoying life is to keep adding.可知,真正的快乐来自于精神的富有.故答案选D.
60.B 推理判断题.根据第二自然段的前两句话"Real riches consist of well-developed and hearty capacities (能力) to enjoy life. Most people are already swamped(淹没) with things. They eat, wear,go and talk too much."可知,划线句子的意思是他们物质上富足,精神上却很贫穷,故答案选B.
61.C 细节理解题.根据第五自然段"Literature, classic literature,is a beautiful, richly furnished room where you might find many an hour of rest and refreshment. To gain that love would go toward making you a rich person, for a rich person is not someone who has a library but who likes a library."

11.Haikou:A shark was killed after being dragged to shore at Yalong Berth beach in Sanya,South China's Hainan Province,on Sunday afternoon.
It was the first time a shark had been caught in the beach area,a popular tourist site in Hainan.
Local fishermen said they caught the 3-meter-long,l-ton shark by chance when they were fishing in sea water 1,000metres deep near the beach.
Police temporarily protected the shark while oceanographers(海洋学家) decided whether it was a species belonging to State protection.
Fishermen later killed and sold the shark after oceanographers confirmed  that it was a whale shark and therefore not under State protection.
The shark was believed to have drifted(漂移)into the area from the deep sea due to strong waves caused last week by Typhoon Imbudo.It had no open injuries but experts said they believed it suffered from internal bleeding.
Local police officer Fu Chenggeng said beachgoers should not feel threatened by sharks because the fish never attack human beings on their own initiative(主动).Fu said he had never heard of any shark attacks at the Sanya beach since he first started work there eight years ago.
However, police said they will improve the security system to safeguard tourists'safety on the beach.

8."What shall I do,"said a very little dog one day to his mother,"to show my thanks to our  master?I cannot draw or carry burdens like the horse; (61)norgive him milk like the cow…I  am a poor unimportant creature,not worth of keeping."So saying,the poor little dog hung down his head (62)disappointedly (disappointed).
"My dear child,Fido,"replied his mother,"although your abilities are small,yet a hearty  good will is enough (63)to cover(cover) all faults.Just love him dearly,and prove your love  (64)byall the means in your power,and you will not fail to please him."
The little dog (65)was comforted(comfort).From then on,he tried his be,st to help his master do all kinds of things.
One hot day,after dinner,his master (66)was sleeping(sleep) in an old summerhouse,with Fido  by his side.Suddenly,Fido saw the walls (67)shaking(shake).He realized the (68)danger(dangerous) and began barking to awaken his master.Upon this the master woke up and had just time to get out of the door before the whole building fell down.Fido,(69)whowas behind,got hurt by some rubbish which fell upon him.His master took care of him with the (70)greatest(great) tenderness.Thus his love and loyalty(忠诚) had the full reward.
15.It does not come as a surprise that Dubai has a growing problem with"tragic".The local rulers have explored all the conventional ways to get traffic moving again,including higher prices for parking,fuel and insurance.But at a recent conference in Hamburg,Hussain Lootah said that the city may adopt a more strict approach:setting an income level for vehicle ownership.
Mr Lootah's approach is unlikely to be copied widely,but mayors of other big cities around the world are starting to think about taking severe actions of their own,including complete car bans in inner cities.But the efforts may not be enough to reduce traffic and pollution.The problems will only get worse:the number of vehicles sold globally each year will grow from around 80million today to more than 100million by the end of the decade,according to IHS Automotive.
There are already a handful of car-free communities around the world.But these are typically small and often tourist destinations that seek to create a throwback(后退;返祖遗传) in time,such as Sark Island,in the English Channel.The largest car-free urban area is probably Venice,where it is impossible to build roads and bridges to link the more than 100small islands the city sits on.
Yet pedestrian malls(步行街) and other car-free zones keep popping up in cities around the world.Some cities are considering ways to limit central city access to"green"machines,such as battery-electric vehicles.Hamburg is perhaps the furthest along.
Such extreme plans may fly in a city such as Hamburg.But in many other cities the political resistance even to less far-reaching measures is hard to overcome.Michael Bloomberg,New York's former mayor,tried twice to introduce a jam charge for much of Manhattan,but his plans were rejected by state lawmakers.

25.From Paragraph 1,we know thatB.
A.Dubai government tries to improve its local incomes
B.Dubai government tries to solve traffic problems
C.Dubai government tries to reduce prices for parking
D.Dubai government tries to offer insurance to locals
26.It is still hard to reduce traffic problems,becauseC.
A.Mr Lootah's approach will be copied widely.
B.mayors take gentle measures toward them.
C.more vehicles will be sold globally each year.
D.complete car bans in inner cities are not made.
27.What causes Venice to be the largest car-free urban area?A
A.Its natural geographical characteristics.
B.Its too many tourist destinations.
C.Its reduced number of cars.
D.Its government law on car free.
28.What can we learn from Paragraph 4?D
A.People can only walk in central city.
B.All vehicles can be used in central city.
C.Hamburg may not adopt"green"machines.
D."Green"machines can be accessible in central city.
5.Forty years ago,Finland was a small country with mediocre(普通)public schools.Today,Finland is still small but no one calls Finland's public schools mediocre any more.
In 2000,the Finns surprised the world when their 15-year-olds scored at the top of a closely watched international exam called the PISA.Finland has stayed near the top ever since, while the U.S.scores around the middle.
Pasi Sahlber g,an official with Finland's Ministry of Education and Culture,is in Seattle this week to share the story of Finland's success, and what states like Washington can learn from it.
Sahlberg's message, although he is too polite to put it so bluntly(坦率):Stop testing so much, trust teachers more; give less homework; shorten the school day.
On Tuesday,in a room filled with teachers,principals,professors,school-board members and policy makers,Sahlberg joked about the Finns'reputation(名声) for being a quiet, humble people."When Finland hit the top of the PISA,"he said,"the biggest disbelievers were Finns."
More seriously,Finland never set out to create the world's top school system.Instead,he said, the country deci ded in the 1970s that it wanted to ensure that a student's success didn't depend on family background.
"Finland relied on cooperation among teachers and schools, rather than on competition.Rather than judging teachers and schools based on test scores,"he said,"Finland puts trust in its teachers and principals.Teachers develop the curriculum in Finland, and design their own tests. There are no nat ional tests, except one at the end of high school."
That's just the start.Along with a shorter school day,Finnish students don't even start school until they are 7 years old. Many primary schools have a policy against giving homework.
"But Finland,"he said,"succeeded in part by adopting ideas from the U.S.and other countries. And those countries,"he said,"can learn from Finland, too."

Go swimming together. No person should ever swim alone.Though many people do,the simple truth is that it only takes a second for people to become injured or drown.(17)FHaving some one there with you can make the difference between life and death. This is especially true for young children. If your children is under the age of 5,you should never allow them to swim out of arm's length.
(18)AKids love to chase one another through the water and to splash and jump around. But it is important to teach children not to jump on top of one another and to watch their surroundings in the water,so that they do not accidentally knock into others, injuring them.Playing around in the pool is very interesting but dangerous.
Keep it locked. If you have a pool, you must have a locking gate around your pool.(19)DKeep the gate locked at all times, even when you are in the pool.It is terrible for ch ildren to steal into the pool.
Know the way out.(20)BMake sure that t hey know where all ladders are and how to enter and get out of the pool properly.Although your children may be able to lift themselves out of the pool using the side, that is not the safest way to go.

10.A woman in the US is able to speak for the first time in 11years after a pioneering voice box transplant.
Brenda Jensen said the operation was a great success which had saved her life.Thirteen days after the surgery she said her first words,"Good morning.I want to go home."It is the first time a voice box and windpipe(气管)have been transplanted at the same time and only the second time a voice box has ever been transplanted.
Ms.Jensen,52,had been unable to speak on her own since her voice box was damaged during surgery in 1999.Since then,she has been unable to taste or smell food,could breathe only through a hole in her windpipe and could talk only with the help of an electronic voice box.
In October,surgeons at the University of California Davis Medical Centre removed the voice box and 6cm of the windpipe from a donor body.In an 18-hour operation,this was transplanted into Ms.Jensen's throat and the team connected it to her blood supply and nerves.
