听力材料:第一节 M:Do you enjoy life in New York? W:No, I don’t.I’m planning to move to Chicago or Boston. But I’ve never regretted my earlier decision. M:Now what seems to be the trouble, Mrs.Stephens? W:I’ve been very weak lately, and last night I had some chest pains. M:I think I’ll order the chocolate ice cream because I didn’t eat lunch earlier today. W:No dessert for me.I can hardly get into my jeans as it is. M:I heard that Mary and Jack got married. W:That’s true. They were married on Oct.1st,but they didn’t leave on their honeymoon for a week. 第二节:第6段材料 M:Our flight has been delayed for two hours. My partners are waiting for me at London airport. W:Where do you come from? M:Beijing.I was at a two-week conference on Space Technology. W:How interesting! I was there with a tour. M:Really? Which places did you visit? W:Apart from Beijing, we went to Nanjing, Shanghai, Xi’an, Hangzhou and Guangzhou. M:Did you enjoy it? W:Very much.It was one of the most exciting tours I’ve ever made. Was this your first trip to China? M:Oh, no, I go almost every year.Unfortunately, it’s always on space-related business, so I’ve only seen the inside of conference rooms and factories.I haven’t had the chance to visit any tourist sites. W:Oh, that’s a pity. 第7段材料 M:Is there anywhere you’d like to go this weekend? W:Nowhere in particular.Do you have anything in mind? M:Well, John and I are going up north.Would you like to join us? We’re going to stay at Mary White’s. W:Is there enough room for everybody? M:Sure, there’s plenty of room. W:In that case, I’d love to.Thank you very much for the invitation, Bob. W:Don’t be silly. You can’t carry your case and mine as well. M:Yes, I can.The cases aren’t that heavy-Hum! W:You see! They’re heavier than you thought! W:Two o’clock Saturday afternoon. M:Well, I’ll try to get back Saturday morning. W:That will make Peter very happy. 第10段材料 Most people know what a hotdog is.It’s a sausage in a roll. But do you know why it’s called hotdog? Well, the long red sausage which goes into a hotdog is called a Frankfurter. It got its name from the German town Frankfurt. The sausages were very popular, but hot frankfurters were difficult to sell in crowds. One man, Henry Stevens, had the job of feeding the crowds at baseball games. He had an idea, why not put the Frankfurters in long hot bread rolls? This made them easy to sell. The red sausages were hot and had an attractive taste, and became very popular. But in 1903,an American cartoonist drew a long German sausage dog in place of the Frankfurter. So a Frankfurter in a roll soon became known as a hotdog. It was a joke, but some people really thought the sausages contained dog meat. For a while, sales of hotdogs fell, but not for long. |
