题目内容

Long long ago, a circle missed one piece of its own. The circle wanted to be whole, so it went around looking for its       piece. But because it was       and therefore could roll only very slowly, it       the flowers along the way. It       with the worms. It enjoyed the sunshine. It found lots of different pieces, but       of them fitted. So it left them all by the side of the road and       searching. Then one day the circle found a piece that fitted      . It incorporated the missing piece into itself and began to roll.       it was a perfect circle, it could roll very fast,       fast to notice the flowers or talk to the worms. After it realized how different the world seemed when it rolled so quickly, it      , left its found piece by the side of the road and rolled slowly away.
The       of the story, I suggest, is that in some strange       we are more whole when we are missing something. The man who has       is in some ways a poor man. He will never know what it       like to nourish his soul with the dream of something      . When we accept that       is part of being human and when we can continue rolling       life and appreciate it, we will have       a wholeness that others can only desire, which , I believe, is _    God asks of us — not “Be perfect”, not “Don’t even make a mistake”,       “Be whole”.

A couple were having a wedding. All of their friends and family came to see the lovely    and all had a wonderful time. The bride was      in her white wedding gown and the groom was very handsome. Everyone could tell that the love they had for each other was true.
A few months later, the wife came to the husband with a    , “Each of us will write a list of things we find a bit    with the other person. Then, we can talk about how we can    them and make our lives happier.” The husband agreed. So they went to think of the things that annoyed them about the other.
The next morning, at the breakfast table, they decided they would go over their   .
“I’ll start,” said the wife. She took out her list. It had many items on it, enough to fill three pages. In fact, as she started reading the list of the little annoyances, she noticed that tears were starting to appear in her husband's eyes.
“What’s wrong?” she asked. “Nothing.” the husband replied,“   reading your list.”
The wife continued to read until she had read all three    to her husband.
“Now, it’s your turn and then we’ll talk about the things on both of our lists.” she said happily.
the husband stated,“I don’t have anything on my list. I think you are    the way that you are. I don’t want you to change anything for me.”
The wife    by his honesty and the depth of his love for her and his acceptance of her, turned her head and wept.
In life, there are enough times when we are disappointed, depressed and annoyed. We don’t really have to go looking for them. We have a wonderful world that is full of beauty, light and promise. Why waste time seeking the bad, disappointing or annoying when we can look around us, and see the     things before us?

September is an exciting month in every college freshman’s life. For many, it’s the first time that they’ve left home to live in a new environment. But after the hustle and bustle of a few weeks, excitement gives way to a less enjoyable emotion— homesickness.
Homesickness manifests itself in many ways. You may miss mum’s cooking, your pets, or even your old bed. All this becomes a fond memory of the past. Homesickness can be a bitter feeling for many students, especially when faced with the challenges of settling into an unfamiliar environment.
But remember, you’re not alone. According to a recent BBC article, 70 percent of British college students experience homesickness. In this increasingly globalized world in which people migrate to faraway places for a relationship, education or work, homesickness is a feeling shared by many adults.
Homesickness can have similar symptoms to depression and in extreme cases it can develop into a panic attack. As for the term, homesickness or nostalgia wasn’t invented until the 17th century. It was considered a disorder by a Swiss physician, who attributed soldiers’ mental and physical discomfort to their longing to return home, “nostos” from Greek, and the accompanying pain, “algos”.
Studies in recent years, however, have shown that nostalgia may have some benefits to our mental health. After a decade of surveys and researches, Constantine Sedikides, a US social psychologist, found that nostalgia is what makes us human. He explains that nostalgia can resist loneliness, boredom and anxiety. Therefore, it’s necessary for college students to learn some ways to overcome the uncomfortable feeling.

More than four out of five people admit to telling little white lies at least once a day and the preferred way of “being economical with the truth” is to use technology such as cellphones, text messages and e-mails, a survey said last Thursday. The research found that “techno-treachery (高科技说谎)” was widespread with nearly 75 percent of people saying gadgets (小器具) made it easier to fib (撒小谎). Just over half of the respondents (被调查者) said using gadgets made them feel less guilty when telling a lie than doing it face to face. The workplace was a favorite location for fibbing with 67 percent of the 1,487 respondents admitting they had lied at work. The top lie was pretending to be ill (43 percent), followed by saying work had been completed when it hadn’t (23 percent). Worryingly for bosses 18 percent said they lied to hide a big mistake. But, employers were not the only ones on the receiving end of dishonest statements. Just over 40 percent of the respondents said they had lied to their families or partners. Key topics to lie about were: buying new clothes or the cost of them (37 percent), how good someone looked in something (35 percent), how much they had eaten (35 percent) and drunk (31 percent) and how much they weighed (32 percent).
