The Average Family Income and Expenses in China 　　The table shows the average family income and expenses in China in 1998 and in 2003. 　　In 1998, the average family income, which added up to about 12,000 yuan, was divided in the following way: 25% was spent on housing, 28% on food, 10% on medical expenses and 7% on entertainment, saving 5%. The remaining 35% was used to meet all other expenses. In 2003, a slight change came about. Housing cost has increased a little, so have food and medical expenses. Entertainment and savings remain the same. The remaining used on other items has reduced to 23%. 　　It is clear from the table that as income increases people can afford to live and eat better.
