听力材料:第一节 M:It looks pretty full.Maybe the next one will be empty. W:Then push the up button again. M:What a useless dictionary this is! W:I couldn’t agree with you more. It’s not worth the money. M:Good morning. Is there anyone absent? W:Bobby is. M:Who knows why he is absent? W:I’m sorry, I don’t know why.You can ask him later. M:The lock on my front door is broken. W:Why don’t you have Mr.Black fix a new one? He is good at the job. M:I realized that short hair is fashionable these clays, but you look so much nicer with long hair. W:Long hair may look nice, but during the summer it’s so uncomfortable.Even after I bought an air-conditioner, my hair still bothered me. 第二节 W:I’m Sue from Daily Magazine. We’re doing a study of transport service in this area. Can you answer some questions? M:How long will it take? I’m in a hurry. W:It takes only a few minutes. M:Yes, OK. W:Do you live near the place of your work? M:Oh, no, I don’t. W:Do you live one to five kilometers from your job, or six to ten, or more than ten kilometers? M:More than ten.Fourteen or fifteen. W:How do you go to work? M:By train. W:Do your family members always use public transport? M:Yes, they go to work or school by bus. W:Thank you very much, sir. M:You are welcome. W:George, how would you like to take over my newspaper route? M:You don’t want it, Mary? W:No, I’m tired of getting up at five thirty every morning.Besides, I’ve got a new job at the supermarket, starting next week. M:How much money can I get? W:About $30 a week. M:Not bad.At what time do I have to get up? W:At five thirty. But on Sundays you can sleep until six thirty. M:Five thirty? Six thirty? I don’t need money that badly! But let me ask my sister.Perhaps we can share the work. W:Good afternoon. We’ve just seen your advertisement. It says you’ve got a room to let.May we have a look at it, please? You haven’t let it yet, have you? M:No, I haven’t.It’s still vacant.Come upstairs, please. The room is on the first floor. W:This is a very pleasant room. M:Yes, it’s nice, isn’t it? We haven’t quite finished the decoration. W:There’s no washbasin? M:No, there isn’t.But the bathroom’s just across the passage. There’s always plenty of hot water. W:How much is the rent? M:I charge $50 a week, for bed and breakfast. W:That’s great. When can I move in? M:Tomorrow if you like. W:OK.I’ll move in tomorrow or the clay after tomorrow if I decide. W:What happened? M:Well, I was lying in the sand enjoying the music on the radio when suddenly I heard someone shouting for help.So I jumped up and saw a little boy waving his arms in the air.I took off my shirt and my watch and jumped into the water.I brought him back. W:Was there anybody else around? M:No.Not at that moment. W:Where were his parents? M:They were away buying some drinks. A very important world problem in fact, I want to say it is the most important of all the great world problems which face us at the present time is the rapidly increasing pressure of population on land and on land resources. It is not so much the actual population of the world but its rate of increase that is important. It works out to be about 1.6 percent a year net increase. In terms of numbers this means something like forty to fifty-five million additional people every year. Canada has a population of twenty million rather less than six months’ climb in the world’s population. There are ten million people in Australia. So, it takes the world less than three months to add to itself a population.Let us take our own crowded country England and Wales:forty-five to fifty million people just about a year’s supply. By this time tomorrow, and every year, there will be added to the earth about the population of the city of York. Here I am not talking about the birth rate. This is net increase. To give you some idea of birth rate, took at the second hand of your watch.Every second three babies are born somewhere in the world.Another baby!…You cannot speak quickly enough to keep pace with the birth rate.By 2006 unless something happens, there will be as many as seven billion people on the surface of the earth! So this is a problem which you are going to see in your lifetime. |
