MONEY-SAVING TIPS FOR DISNEY WORLD

Every time you visit Disney World, there’s something new to see. What began in 1971 as the Magic Kingdom now includes the high-tech, movie-mad Disney and Animal Kingdom. Each time the park expands, so do your chances to spend money. How can you save? As a family guide to Disney World, I’ve been to the park more than 25 times with my kids, and I’ve developed a few money-saving plans.

    ● Buy the five-day All-in-One Hopper Pass (入场券). Even if you’re visiting for fewer days, it’s a deal (the pass costs $ 229 for visitors ages 10 and up, $ 183 for kids ages three to nine and is free for kids under age three). Without the pass, you’ll have to pay separately for Pleasure Island and the water parks. A single trip to Blizzard Beach, for example, would cost a family of four $ 100.

● Dine out at lunch. The prices at some of the nicer restaurants, especially those in Epcot’s World Showcase, are much lower at noontime than at dinner. It’s wise to make reservations before you leave home. Call 407-W-DISNEY.

● Become a Gold Card Member. For $65, you can get a Magic Kingdom Club Gold Card (call 1-800-56-DISNEY). Card-holders get up to 20 percent off Disney hotel rooms, plus price breaks on character breakfasts, theme park tickets and goods from Disney stores.

● Don’t pay extra to see a character. Character-theme dinner shows are expensive, costing a family of four about $ 140, and even a character breakfast, where Mickey or Donald Duck joins you for cakes, can set you back $ 50.If your budget is tight, try to meet the characters inside the theme parks and at free in-park shows. You can watch the Diamond Horseshoe show, for example, in the Magic Kingdom for no additional cost, while the similarly themed Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue requires expensive tickets.

● Wait until the end of your trip to buy souvenirs. By then, the kids will really know what they want, and you won’t waste money on expensive things.

1.If you are short of money, the writer suggests ______.

A.you should not buy things for the kids from Disney stores

B.you should not buy souvenirs at the beginning of the trip

C.you should not make a trip to Blizzard Beach

D.you should not have your meals out at noontime

2.Which of the following can be used in place of “set you back”?

       A.Offer you.                                          B.Save you.

       C.Cost you.                                            D.Return you.

3.You should pay more money _______.

A.if you have a five-day All-in-One Hopper Pass while you’re visiting for four days

B.if you do not make a reservation for hotel rooms in advance

C.if you are not a Magic Kingdom Club Gold Card holder

You have a nice salary, but you still feel short of money. At the end of each month, you often ask yourself, “Where has all my money gone”? To help you better run your salary, here come some money-saving tips.

First, you need to set goals to encourage yourself to save money. For example, you plan to have a good dress in one year, to have a car in two years’ time or to buy a house in five years.

Second, form money-saving habits and stay away from the ones that waste money. Learn to keep a diary of how much you spend and what it’s for. Think twice before using money on expensive skin care products(护肤品). The best way to keep your skin in good condition is enough sleep.

Third, pay attention to your daily things. Leave no more than one light on when you leave home. Buy vegetables from a market where vegetables are less expensive and fresher, not a supermarket. When going to a supermarket, take a notebook with you. Write down what you want to buy.

Fourth, save your social life. Take the dishes that haven’t been eaten up away for next day when you have dinner in a restaurant. When it’s your turn to offer a meal, invite your friends to your home, and cook the dinner yourself. If you are to attend a party and an expensive present is needed, ask several friends to go together to share a present.

Wal-Mart is not just the world's largest retailer (零售商). It's the world's largest company, which sells in three months what number-two retailer Home Depot sells in a year.

Wal-Mart exercises its power for just one purpose: to bring the lowest possible prices to its customers. At Wal-Mart, that goal is never reached. The retailer has a clear policy for suppliers: On basic products that don't change, the price Wal-Mart will pay, and will charge shoppers, must drop year after year. But what almost no one outside the world of Wal-Mart and none of its 21,000 suppliers know is the high cost of those low prices. To survive in the face of its pricing demands, makers of everything from bikes to jeans have had to close US plants in favor of obtaining products from abroad.

Indeed, the real story of Wal-Mart, the story that never gets told, is the story of the pressure the biggest retailer constantly applies to its suppliers in the name of bringing us "every day low prices".

The giant retailer' s low prices often come with a high cost. Wal-Mart' s pressure can crush the companies it does business with and force them to send jobs overseas. Are we shopping our way straight to the unemployment line? Of course, US companies have been moving jobs offshore for decades, long before Wal-Mart was a retailing power. But there is no question that the chain is helping accelerate the loss of American jobs to low-wage countries such as Thailand.

People ask, "How can it be bad for things to come into the US cheaply?" Sure, it's great to have bargains. But you can' t buy anything if you' re not employed.

There is no question that Wal-Mart's drive to squeeze out cost has benefited consumers. By now, it is accepted wisdom that Wal-Mart makes the companies it does business with more efficient and focused. Wal-Mart itself is known for continuous improvement in its ability to handle, move, and track goods. It is legendary (传奇) for forcing its suppliers to redesign everything from their packaging to their computer systems. It is also legendary for quite straightforwardly telling them what it will pay for their goods.

1. How do suppliers meet the requirements of Wal-Mart?

A. To sell even more goods in three months.

B. To cut down the employment rate sharply.

C. To charge shoppers at a much higher price.

D. To run the business in a well-organized way.

2. Wal-Mart's low price policy results in ____.

A. more high-paying jobs

B. better designed packages

C. bigger profit of its partners

D. more jobless American workers

3. What can we infer from the passage?

A. Still more quality goods will be provided.

B. The food you get at Wal-Mart costs least.

C. The value of Mal-Mart is over assessed.

D. Wal-Mart is a very demanding company.

4.What's the best title for the passage?

A. The Fortune Wal-Mart Makes

B. The Wal-Mart you don't Know

C. The Biggest Retailer—Wal-Mart

D. The Money Saving Tip in Wal-Mart
