Ten years ago, when I began my senior high school study, I found them extremely difficult to learn English well because there were so much new words and grammar rules to recite. Hard though I might try, but I still did poorly in the English exams. Frank speaking, it was hardest time in my life. One day, I was considered giving up when suddenly my mother found my problem. She told me that if I didn’t complete that I wanted to do, it could directly influence my future. Under the help of my mother, I made rapid progresses in English little by little. At the end of the term I get the highest mark in English.

【8】underwith 考查介词。with the help of sb.在某人的帮助下,固定短语。故Under改为With

【9】progressesprogress 考查名词。progress不可数名词,故progresses改为progress

【10】getgot 考查时态。句意:在这学期期末,我英语得高分。结合上下文可知此处需用一般过去时,故get改为got

【题目】Work is a part of living—my grandparents understood that. They lived and worked on a farm that has been in my family for 150 years. They raised chickens for eggs, pigs and cattle for meat.Cows were kept for milk and the cream, from which Grandma made butter and cheese. What little yard they had became a garden.

The Depression(大萧条时期),therefore, didn’t make much change in their lives. But it did bring a lot of men out of work, drifting from job to job,to the farm. The first to show up at the door of the kitchen was a man in rags.He took off his hat and quietly explained that he hadn’t eaten for a while.Grandpa stood watching him a bit, then said, “There’s a stack of firewood against the fence behind the barn(谷仓).I’ve been needing to get it moved to the other side of the fence. You have just about enough time to finish the job before lunch.”

Grandma said a surprising thing happened. The man got a shine in his eyes and he hurried to the barn at once. She set another place at the table and made an apple pie.During lunch, the stranger didn’t say much, but when he left, his shoulders had straightened.“Nothing ruins a man like losing his self-respect,”Grandpa later told me.

Soon after, another man showed up asking for a meal. This one was dressed in a suit and carried a small old suitcase.Grandpa came out when he heard voices. He looked at the man and then offered a handshake.“There is a stack of firewood along the fence down behind the barn I’ve been meaning to get it moved. It’d sure be a help to me. And we’d be pleased to have you stay for lunch.”The fellow set his suitcase aside and neatly laid his coat on top. Then he set off to work.

Grandma says she doesn’t remember how many strangers they shared a meal with during those Depression days-or how many times that stack of wood got moved.

Network With Ease

Networking is very important in our daily lives. Often the best jobs and opportunities are not advertised but filled by word of mouth. With this in mind, a good idea is to go and find them yourself. How is this done? By the simple process of networking. A number of people feel networking is a waste of time and it has no effect on personal relationships or being successful in your business. __【1】___ Relationships and business have been built via the networking process for hundreds of years.

Networking is not about meeting hundreds of people, communicating with them and then never meeting them again. If you aren’t able to then see if you can introduce them to someone more well-matched to their business.

Touching base with a few people can in fact lead to reaching many.

___【4】___ I heard a story of someone recommending a friend for a teaching position with a nonprofit organization. Interestingly enough after getting the position, he returned the favor by referring his friend into a job he had heard about. How funny things work out!

When looking for a new job, it may be worth joining a networking group focusing on the sector of business you are interested in. It’s a great way to meet people, do research into companies by asking questions of those people who work there. __【5】_

The examples above show that in order to network effectively and in an efficient manner, you do not need to be outgoing or know a lot of people. All it requires is being creative, listening well, asking relevant questions and developing a good reputation with others. You would be amazed at how many doors will open for you.

A. This concept is completely incorrect.
