Although problems are a part of our lives, it certainly doesn¡¯t mean that we let them rule our lives forever.

__¡¾1¡¿__ Problems with friends, parents, girlfriends, husbands, and children ¨C the list goes on. Apart from these, the inner conflicts within ourselves work, too. These keep adding to our problems. Problems come in different shapes and colors and feelings.

But good news is that all problems can be dealt with.

Talk, it really helps. What most of us think is that our problem can be understood only by us and that no talking is going to help. __¡¾2¡¿__ Talking helps you move on and let go.

Write your problems. __¡¾3¡¿__ When you write down your problems, you are setting free all the tension from your system. You can try throwing away the paper on which you wrote your problems. By doing this, imagine yourself throwing away the problems from your life.

Don¡¯t lose faith and hope. No matter what you lose in life, don¡¯t lose faith and hope. Even if you lose all your money, family¡ you should still have faith. __¡¾4¡¿__

Your problems aren¡¯t the worst. No matter what problem you get in life, there¡¯re another one million people whose problems are huger than yours. __¡¾5¡¿__ Your problems might just seem big and worse, but in reality they can be removed. Go about and solve your problems because every problem, however big or small, always has a way out.

A£®But the truth is that when you talk about it, you¡¯re setting free the negative energies that have been gathering within you.

B£®When we have a problem, a pressing, critical, urgent, life-threatening problem, how do we try and solve it?

C£®We can often overcome the problem and achieve the goal by making a direct attack.

D£®Having a personal diary can also be of huge help if you don¡¯t want a real person to talk with.

E£®With faith and hope, you can rebuild everything that you lose.

F£®Of course, we¡¯ve been fighting troubles ever since we were born.

G£®Tell yourself: when they can deal with them, why can¡¯t I?

The largest earthquake (magnitude ÀïÊÏ 9.5 ) of the 20th century happened on May 22, 1960 off the coast of South Central Chile.

It generated (Éú³É) one of the most destructive Pacific-wide tsunamis (º£Ð¥ ). Near the generating area, both the earthquake and the tsunami were very much destructive, particularly in the coastal area from Concepcion to the south end of Isla Chiloe. The largest tsunami damage occurred at Isla Chiloe--the coastal area closest to the epicenter(ÕðÖÐ). Huge tsunami waves measuring as high as 25 meters arrived within 10 to 15 minutes after the earthquake, killing at least two hundred people, sinking all the boats, and flooding half a kilometer inland.

There was large damage and loss of life at Concepcion, Chile' s top industrial city. Near the city of Valdivia, the earthquake and following aftershocks generated landslides which killed 18 people. At the port city of Valparaiso, a city of 200,000, many buildings collapsed. A total of 130,000 houses were destroyed--one in every three in the earthquake zone and nearly 2,000,000 people were left homeless.

Total damage losses, including to agriculture and to industry, were estimated (¹À¼Æ) to be over a half billion dollars. The total number of deaths related with both the tsunami and the earthquake was never found accurately for the region. Estimates of deaths reached between 490 to 5,7002 with no distinction(²î±ð) as to how many deaths were caused by the earthquake and how many were caused by the tsunami. However, it is believed that most of the death in Chile were caused by the tsunami.

¡¾1¡¿ Where did the largest tsunami damage occur?

A. Concepcion.

B. Isla Chiloe.

C. Valdivia.

D. Valparaiso.

¡¾2¡¿ What can we learn about the tsunami waves generated by the earthquake?

A. The tsunami waves as high as 25 meters arrived immediately after the earthquake.

B. The tsunami waves killed 200 people and sank all the boats.

C. The tsunami waves were very destructive.

D. The tsunami waves flooded half of the inland.

¡¾3¡¿What is generally thought the main cause of deaths in Chile?

A. Landslides.

B. The tsunami.

C. Aftershocks.

D. The magnitude 9.5 earthquake.

¡¾4¡¿ What is the total number of deaths in the earthquake?

A. 2,000,000.

B. Between 490 to 5, 7002.

C. 200,000.

D. It was hard to know.

Four Ways to Be a Great Roommate

Having a roommate can be one of the best experiences in college or, easily, one of the worst.

___¡¾1¡¿___ Follow these tips to avoid the common mistakes that turn good roommate relationships sour.

¡óTalk things out.

Communication is key. If something happens, sit down with your roommate and have a face-to-face conversation. I've seen roommate relationships fall apart because something happens and, instead of talking to each other, the two start complaining about their roommates behind their backs. ___¡¾2¡¿___

¡óDon't expect to be best friends.

Some roommates become the best of friends, and some don't. Don't put pressure on yourself or your roommate, especially when you first meet. ___¡¾3¡¿___ And if your roommate doesn't end up being your best friend, don't worry.

¡óAsk before you take.

This applies to food, clothes and anything else. If you want to keep a relationship going, show your roommate that you have respect for what is his or hers by asking first. ___¡¾4¡¿___ ¡óClean up after yourself.

This should do without saying. Don't be lazy. Or, at least, don't bury your roommate in your clothes and garbage. Most people I've come across in college are messy. ___¡¾5¡¿___ But being considerate with where you put your stuff will help you avoid conflict.

A. So you need to think twice before you help your roommates out.

B. This creates nothing but awkward situations and unhappiness.

C. Even if you both agree to share everything, you should still ask.D. You don't have all the time to clean your room and keep it organized.

E. It all starts with you to have a good relationship with your roommate.

F. Sometime you get stuck with someone who has tons of negative energy.

G. Remember, you're trying to make a new friend, not to scare your roommate away.

Dear Mandy,

I¡¯m not doing well in my lessons at school, especial in maths. My dad says I must try hard because he wants me go to university. He thinks I¡¯m lazy, but it¡¯s not true. I work really hard, often study late into the night! I¡¯ve tried to talk to my mother, but she always said I have to work as hard like my brother does. My brother doesn¡¯t study very hard, and he always gets excellent grades. It¡¯s not fair!

The only thing I like it is art. My teacher says I¡¯m the best student she¡¯s had for year. When I told my dad£¬all he said was, ¡°You mustn¡¯t waste your time in art. You must focus your mind on your lessons!¡±

I¡¯m feeling quite puzzling as to what to do now. Would you please help me out?

Thanks a lot!

Yours,

Lisa
