     An Englishman was showing a foreign visitor around London. "What's that strange building?" asked the
visitor. "That's the Tower of London." "I see. How long did it take to build it?" "About 500 years." "In my
country we can build it in five months," Shortly after that they came to St. Paul's Cathedral(大教堂). "Very
interesting!" said the visitor. "How long did it take to build it?" "Near forty years." said the Englishman. "In
my country we can finish it in forty days at most," aid the visitor. This went on all day. 
     They visited most of the best known buildings in the city. Every time they saw a new one, the visitor
asked what it was and how long it took to build it. Then he said that they could do the same thing much
faster in his country.
     At last the Englishman got angry with the visitor though he tried not to show it. Several days later they

     Mr. Brown was going away for a week. Before he left, he said to his son, "If anyone asks for me, you
can tell him that your father has been out for doing something, and will be back in a week, then be sure to
ask him to sit down for a cup of tea."
     "OK, Dad," said his son. But he was afraid his son couldn't remember this, he wrote these words down

     Have you ever listened to young children talking? They say many interesting things, like "my dad's car
is bigger than your dad's." and "My mum is smarter than yours."
     There were three little boys, Harry, Ted and Gavin. They were always boasting (自吹自擂). Gavin
was the worst. Everything in his home was always the best or the biggest or the most expensive.
     One day when they were walking to school, Harry said, "My father has a bath twice a week." Ted
spoke next, "That's nothing. Having a bath twice a week means your father is dirty. My father has a bath

     I'll tell you a story about a Chinese student. It happened when he studied in England. His family name
was Sun. It is spelt S-U-N, just the same as the English word "sun", the sun in the sky.
     England is a country with bad weather. It is often cloudy or misty and it rains now and again, so the
people don't get much sunshine in the year.     
     When the Chinese student arrived at London Airport, a tall English policeman with a long face checked
his passport. The policeman was interested to find the Chinese name "Sun" in the passport. He thought it
was pronounced just like the English word "sun", so he said to the Chinese student, "I see your name is
Sun. You are wanted here."
     What a surprise to hear that! Everybody knows if you are wanted by the police, you must have
