     Tom Sawyer is about 10 years old and is clever, naughty, and is very mischievous (调皮的). He lives in
the town of St. Petersburg. One day, Tom gets into a huge fight with a new kid, Alfred, who has just moved
in class. He also convinces (说服) many kids to paint the fence (栅栏) for him, which was his punishment
(惩罚) for fighting with Alfred.
     Tom starts to become friendlier when he falls in love with Becky, a girl that just moved into town. One
day, Tom tries to stay home from school by saying that he is sick, but he is lying. His Aunt Polly, who takes
care of him, makes him go. On the way to school, Tom stops and talks to Huckleberry Finn. He has a drunk
(酗酒) father who doesn't care about him. Because of this, he does not go to school and drinks and smokes
all day. Not many people in the community like Huckleberry Finn. When Tom gets to school, he admits to
talking with Huckleberry Finn. His punishment is to sit with the girls. He is happy to do this because he wants
to sit near Becky.

     The following story took place long ago in Israel. One day when government officials were rebuilding
a barn (谷仓), they found a mouse hole in a corner and used smoke to make the mice inside the hole come out.
A while later they saw mice running out, one after another.
     Then, everyone thought that all the mice had run away. But when they started to clean up, they saw two
mice squeezing (挤) out at the exit of the hole. After a while,the mice finally got out. The strange thing was
that after they came out of the hole, they did not run away immediately. Instead, one chased after the other

     Everyone was puzzled, so they went closer to take a look. They realized that one of the mice was blind

of people sat down and started to chat about what happened to the two mice.
