Dear Nancy,
How are you? Now I want to tell something interesting. Last week we
had a trip to Mount Tai. On Tuesday we went to Taian by bus, a city at the
foot of the mountain. We had a good rest at a hotel. At about one o'clock
early the next morning, we began to climb the mountain. It took us about
four hours and a half to get to the top. The mountain is covered (覆盖) with
trees. I didn't see such a beautiful place before.
"Look! The sun is going to rise!" my friend Lim shouted.
We all turned to the east and watched. Soon half of the sky because
white, and a big, red ball was rising slowly. A few minutes later, the sky
became bright(明亮的).
We stayed on the top and had a good time. After lunch we started going down.
We got to the tour hotel at about four in the afternoon. Though we
were tired, we were very happy. We came back to school the next day.

A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: "I am blind,
please help." There were only a few coins in the hat.
A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took
the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would
see the new words.
Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man
who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked: "Were you
the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?"
The man said: "I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way."
What he had written was: "Today is a beautiful day but I cannot see it."
Do you think the first sign and the second sign were saying the same thing?
Of course both signs told people the boy was blind. But the first sign simply told people to help by putting
some money in the hat. The second sign told people that they were able to enjoy the day, but the boy could not
enjoy it because he was blind.
The first sign simply said the boy was blind. The second sign reminded people they were lucky that they were
not blind.
There are at least two lessons we can learn from this simple story.
The first is: Be thankful for what you have. Someone else has less. Help where you can.
The second is: Be creative. Think differently. There is always a better way.

A. He sold this old hat.

3. The blind boy recognized the kind man by his             .
[     ]
A. words
B. smell
C. footsteps
D. voice
4. Why was the second sign better than the first one?
[     ]
A. There were more words on the second sign.
B. The words on the second sign reminded people of a sunny day.
C. The first sign said the boy was blind while the second one didn't.
D. The second sign made people realize how lucky they were while the first one didn't.
5. Which is the best title for the passage?

You may ask why people call it so.   If you fly high up over the lake and look down from your plane,    you will find the answer yourself.   In the middle of this lake, there is a small island. People call it the Pearl Island(珍珠岛) because it looks like a pearl. On one side of the Pearl Island, the lake looks like a sun, and on the other side, it looks like a moon. That is why people call it the Sun and Moon Lake. There are many mountains around the Sun and Moon Lake.   One of the most famous ones is the Ali Mountain. We stayed there for three days. We also had a dance party with Gaoshan people.   On our first day there, we watched the sun going down slowly in the west.  On our last day, we got up early   and saw a very beautiful sunrise(日出).Taiwan is a wonderful place to visit.
