Julio loves to visit his grandmother . He doesn’t get to visit her very often because his family lives in a city that is six hours away .His grandmother lives in a big wooden house on a farm .It is old and looks as if it has secret hiding places .
On the third Sunday of June ,Julio’s parents took him to his grandmother’s .Since it was summer vacation, he was going to stay at grandmother’s for a whole summer . Hid cousins Mario and linda would soon be arriving. They would also be staying at their grandmother’s this summer .
A big porch (走廊) wrapped (缠绕)around two sides of the house .Julio sat in the porch swing (秋千).He could see the trees that circle the house .They had been planted as a windbreak (防风林).They protected the house from the wind and blowing dirt .The house was in the middle of a large flat field .
Julio watched the dirt road that led to the house .He couldn’t wait for his cousins to get there .Mario was his age ,and Linda was a year younger .They had fun together .Last summer they spent one whole morning making a fort out of sacks of seed (装种子的麻袋做成的堡垒).Then Uncle Henry took them on a tractor ride.
Julio remembered another time with his cousins .They had gone out to explore the fields .Julio touched an electric fence and got a shock .Then they found an old snake skin. Nothing like that ever happened at his own home !
Julio could smell the dinner that his grandmother was cooking .It made him hungry .
Finally he saw a cloud of dust coming up the road .“They’re here ! They are here !”He shouted .

Angel felt sorry for the zoo animals. While the others in the family were cooking dinner, Angel was cooking up a way to help the animals. She decided to write a letter to show how she felt. At the end of the letter, she wrote: “Give a dollar, help an animal.” She sent the letter and a dollar to The Fresno Bee, a local newspaper.
A few days after that, Angel’s letter was published. Almost immediately, people began sending in money. Angel’s letter was having effect!
At school, Angel went to each classroom to read the letter that appeared on the newspaper. She asked students in her school to give money to the zoo. Next, Angel was asked to appear on television. She was invited to be on a popular talk show.

For many years, no one could communicate with people who had been born without hearing. These deaf people were not able to use a spoken language.
But, beginning in the 1700s, the deaf were taught a special language. Using the language, they could share thoughts and ideas with others. The language they used was a language without sound. It was a sign language.
How did this sign language work? The deaf were taught to make certain movements using their hands, faces, and bodies. These movements stood for things and ideas. People might move their forefingers across their lips. This meant, “You are not telling the truth.” They might tap their chins with three fingers. This meant, “my uncle”.
The deaf were also taught to use a finger alphabet(字母表). They used their fingers to make the letters of the alphabet. In this way, they spelled out words. Some deaf people could spell out words at a speed of 130 words per minute.
Sign language and finger spelling are not used as much as they once were. Today the deaf are taught to understand others by watching their lips. They are taught how to speak

Dear Mr Zhu,
I am writing to your magazine’s “Teenagers Now” column(专栏) to ask for some help with my 16-year-old son. At the moment, he refuses to do almost everything his mother and I ask him to do. He is our only child and we treat him very well. His grandparents buy him many things, and yet he is still rude to us. He refuses to spend time with us or do as we tell him. Sometimes he acts as if he doesn’t even love us at all.
Now he refuses to do his homework, and instead insists on wasting his time watching DVDs and listening to foreign music. I cannot understand this music, but I don’t like it. He also spends too much time in Internet cafes, where he either plays games or chats online. He is wasting valuable time during this important period in his life!
What am I to do? At present, to prevent making his mother unhappy with an argument, I am allowing him his freedom. However, I am worried that if I keep allowing him to do what he wants, he may fail at school, or worse.
How can I help my son without harming our relationship?
Yours,
Liu Zhenhua

Chinese TV shows that describe young people's lives in modern society are crossing the cultural divide and attracting a lot of foreign audiences.
One of the examples is the Chinese TV series "A Beautiful Daughter-in-law Era", a light comedy about a modern Chinese couple.
The TV series was first aired in Shanghai in November 2009. It was dubbed in Swahili and broadcast in east African countries in 2011. Two Kenyan(肯尼亚人) actresses were chosen to do voice dubbing for the two leading roles in the African version of the series. It was a great success in Africa.
Tanzanians(坦桑尼亚人) say that they are able to understand how young Chinese people live happily in modern times and they may be able to find ways to solve their personal problems by watching the series.
Although China is one of the world's most prolific(多产的) producers of TV series, its series are not particularly popular overseas. The popularity of "A Beautiful Daughter-In-Law Era" may serve as an example for Chinese TV producers who want to bring their work to other countries.
In recent years, some TV series that show the lives of people in Chinese cities have achieved some success in the foreign market.
"Go Lala Go!," a TV series that details the adventures of a female office worker named Du Lala, has also started to reach global audiences. The series has been exported to Singapore, Malaysia, the United States and Canada.
"The Chinese dream will be more easily accepted by foreign audiences when it is manifested in small and touching stories," said Meng Jian, a professor at Fudan University
