My mother often asked me, “what is the most important part of the body?” Through the years I would guess at

Then last year, my Grandpa

she asked me this now. I always thought this was a game between her and me. She saw the confusion(迷惑) on my face and told me, “This

is very important. It shows that you have

She replied, “No, it is because it can hold the head of a friend or loved one when they

that you will have a shoulder to cry on when you need it.”

Long long ago, there was a swan(天鹅)with golden feathers(金羽毛).She lived in a lake. A woman lived in a small house

still, they lived a hard life and sometimes they even didn’t have enough

to buy food.
The swan was

to see that. She said to herself, “I’11 give one of my

to them each day, then they can live a happy life with the money selling my feathers.” That evening, she

than before.
But day after day, the woman became greedy(贪婪).She said to her
9
.“The swan may fly away one day. If so, we will be poor again. We should take all
10
feathers when she comes next time.”
“Oh, no, Mom!” cried the daughters, “This will

the swan. She helps us a lot !” But the mother wouldn’t listen. When the

came as usual, the mother caught her and took all her feathers. But suddenly, the golden feathers

you,but you wanted to kill me. Now, I am leaving and will
15
come back. Never be greedy!” With these words, the swan flew away.

Hearing the front door open, I ran down to the kitchen and waited. I saw my dad come in, with the white envelope in his hand. I had waited all day for this, so I reached over him for it as soon as he set foot into the house. Angrily, he
1
the envelope on the table and said that it was nothing to get excited about, and that it was just a piece of paper. I grabbed (抓取) it and ran upstairs. I wondered why my dad did not understand how
2
I was to see my mid-year report card for my first year in middle school. I was really
3
by how he refused to consider all my hard work.
I saw my class rank (等级): 1/139. I did not behave what I saw. I felt my lips (嘴唇) form a smile and wanted to run downstairs to tell everyone. Then I
4
what my dad had said--- it was nothing to get excited about. I wanted to share my happiness with someone, but felt lonely.
I realized that I had become distant (远隔的) from my family. We used to
5
late watching Disney movies, and my brothers, sisters and I would play tennis in the backyard all the time. I wondered when all that had
6
. I just no longer took part in them. My school work
7
all my time and energy.
While I had been busy with my study, I had also built a
8
between me and my family. I was only trying to become a person everyone could be
9
of.
I wanted to go downstairs, say sorry for my rude behavior and for every refused movie and tennis game, and be
10
of my family again, I knew I had to do something--because without their support, my achievement meant nothing.

Dear Students,
I am very happy to be your guest speaker today. It is a great pleasure to visit your school and to meet all of you.
I would like to tell you about myself. I have been a news reporter for the past fifteen years. I
1
this job so I could travel the world, but job has taught me many unforgettable lessons. The work is sometimes
2
. I have seen famines(饥荒),earthquakes, poorness and death. But I have
3
seen courage,hope and happiness.
In India,I visited a city where there were many homeless children. Some were as young as four years old. They lived in the
4
and depended on themselves by begging or stealing. But then a wonderful lady called Rosa opened a home for them. Within one year, she was
5
two hundred children. She clothed them, fed them and taught them. She gave them
6
.
7
time,I was in Turkey after a terrible earthquake. In one place,I found an old lady whose house was destroyed. Her son was missing and rescue(救援) workers said there was no chance that he was still alive. But the old lady did not
8
hope. For four days, she moved heavy stones one at a time by herself. She did not stop
9
she found her son. He was alive.
Here in China,I met a young boy who was seriously ill. He had had twenty operationsand spent nearly his whole life in hospital. I thought he would be
10
,but when I met him,his smile was so warm and welcoming.
In life,we need good models that we can admire and learn from. When my life is difficult,I try to remember the courage and goodness of these three people.

14
to take two trips, one to the Netherlands,

to Portland.
“Don’t think of saving money as something hard. It’s a kind of game,” said Anna.
