Electronic books have changed the way many people read for1. Now online textbooks are changing the way some students learn and some teachers teach.
More than2students go to the public schools in Fairfax County, Virginia, outside Washington. Last year, the school system used digital books in fifteen schools. This school year, middle schools and high schools changed3printed to electronic textbooks in their social studies classes.
“I mean, it’s just 4a regular textbook, except it’s got it all online.” says Luke Rosa, a history teacher at Falls Church High School.
Peter Noonan, an assistant superintendent(主管) of schools says, “The world’s changing5. And the online textbooks can change right along with the events that6.”
“Digital books also cost7than printed textbooks,” he says, “Usually it’s between fifty and seventy dollars 8a textbook for each student, which adds up to about eight million dollars for all of our students in Fairfax County. In fact, we have bought all of the online textbooks for our students for just under six million dollars.”
Social studies teacher Michael Bambara says the e-book he uses in his government class is better than a(an)9textbook. It has materials for students10different levels of reading skills…

One’s education starts from family, especially from his or her mother. Here is a story1 happened in my childhood.
One Saturday morning, I was watching TV in the living room with my two brothers. My mum2 several apples of different colors and sizes. She put all the apples on the table, then 3me and my younger brothers, “Which do you like ?”4 my younger brothers and I wanted the biggest one. 5 I could say “ The biggest one”, one of my brothers stood up and said what I wanted to say.
My mum 6 the biggest apple and said to us, “It is 7to get the biggest apple. Many people want the best thing, but few really get it. Now let’s start a 8. Look at the lawn(草坪) in front of our 9. I’11 divide it into three parts. Each of you must finish pruning(修剪) 10own share. The best and quickest one will be11the biggest apple.” I won the apple finally.
Since then, I have learned to try my best to succeed whenever I get a chance. I work 12to get what I want. That was what my mother advised me to do. I feel very thankful to my mum because she taught me a very basic but the most 13lesson. It is quite fair that we can get what we want 14competing (竞争). My mother kept teaching us in this way and we followed her 15 all the time.
I do believe that mother is the first teacher of children, who can teach them to be a No.1 pursuing person.
