Can you imagine a world without the Internet? It’s surprising to think about it. Now, China has more than 162 million Internet users, according to the China Internet Network Information Centre. This is the second largest number of users in the world after the United States. Today, 66% of Chinese “netizens(网民)” are teenagers. “They spend about thirteen hours every week online,” said Qian Hulin, an Internet expert. Doctor Song in Beijing Xuanwu Hospital said about 14% of Chinese netizens who are teens often went on playing online games for over ten hours.
The main reasons why teenagers surf the web are to search for information, to communicate with others and to have fun. On the Internet, teenagers can find out almost anything. And surfing the web can help students with their homework and widen their knowledge.
Li Dong, a teacher at No. 41 Middle School in Shijiazhuang, is for her students using the Internet. “When we talk in class, students who surf the Net usually know more background information than the others,” she said.
In addition, people can use the Internet to write letters or stories and send emails. Many teens keep in touch with their friends online. It is cheaper than phoning somebody far away and also much quicker.

The word“day”has two meanings. When we talk about the number of days in a year, we are using“day”to mean 24 hours. But when we talk about day and night, we are using“day”to mean the time between sunrise and sunset. Since the earth looks like a ball, the sun can shine on only half of it at a time. Always one half of the earth is having day and the other half night. A place is moved from day into night and from night into day over and over by the spinning(旋转)of the earth. At the equator(赤道)day and night are sometimes the same length(长度). They are each twelve hours long. The sun rises at 6 o’clock in the morning and sets at 6 o’clock in the evening. For six months the North Pole is tilted(倾斜)toward the sun. In those months the Northern Hemisphere(半球)gets more hours of sunlight than the Southern Hemisphere. Days are longer than nights. South of the equator nights are longer than days. For the other six months the North Pole is tilted away from the sun. Then the Southern Hemisphere gets more sunlight. Days are longer than nights. North of the equator nights are longer than days. Winter is the season of long nights. Summer is the season of long days

Dear Laura,
Thanks for your message. Yes, I’m having  a great time on my exchange program in France. It’s even  better  than I thought it would be. I was a bit nervous before I   arrived  here, but there was no reason to be. My host family is really nice. They go out of their way to  make  me feel at home. And you  wouldn’t  believe how quickly my French has improved! I’m very comfortable  speaking  French now. Although I still make lots of mistakes, it doesn’t bother me like it used to. My  biggest  challenge is learning how to behave at the dinner table. As you can imagine, things are really different from the way they are at home.  For example, you’re not supposed to  put  your bread on your plate. You’re supposed to put it on the table! I thought that was pretty strange at first, but now I’m used to it. You’re not supposed to eat  anything  with your hands except bread, not even fruit! (You have to cut it up and eat it with a fork). Another thing is that it is very rude to  say  you’re full. If you don’t want any  more  food, you should just say, “It was delicious.” Also, it’s rude to put your hands  in  your lap. You should always keep your hands ,but not your elbows, on the table. I have to say, I find it difficult to  remember  everything, but I’m gradually  getting  used to things and don’t find them so strange any more. I’ll write soon and  tell you more about life in France. Hope you’re having a good school year.
Wang Kun

The size and shape of your ears show your character more than any other part of the face. Other parts of the face change shapes as we get older, but ears do not change their shapes. They only change in size.
Reading people’s character from their ears is a very old science. In the past people thought that a person’s ears with color was dangerous. Ears are all different, and each different thing has a meaning. Next time you look at a person, see if his or her ears are large,medium-size,or small. Look at the lobes(耳垂).Do they stick to the face? For many American teenagers, having a part-time job is an important part of growing up. A part-time job can teach teenagers important skills like responsibility(责任), independence(独立),teamwork and leadership.
Young people can expand(扩大) their social circles beyond their classmates by making friends with co-workers. And many teenagers find that earning their own money gives them a sense of pride and freedom.
The US Department of Labor allows teenagers to apply for jobs at the age of 14. Popular part-time jobs include working in ice cream stores, coffee shops, and clothing stores. During the school year, teenagers may go to work a few times a week after their classes get out, then work for longer on the weekends.
In the summer, top jobs for teens include working at camps, swimming pools and amusement parks. These jobs are great for young people who want to be active and have fun while making money.
A favorite job for many teens is babysitting(临时替人看小孩), and they can start before 14 if the parents agree. After the children are sleeping and before the parents come home, babysitters have lots of freedom.
