Cyber Boy 5-26-2019 2:15 p.m.

Hi, I’m planning a trip to Europe this summer. I haven’t decided where to go yet, but I’d like to experience Britain and France. And I don’t want to spend too much money. Any ideas?

Esperanto 5-26-2019 2:33 p.m.

I had a tour to Britain last year. It’s a very nice place. I had a great time there. If you get a chance, visit Stratford. That’s the town where Shakespeare lived.

Yoshi 5-26-2019 2:38 p.m.

First you should make sure what you want to do there. Each country in Europe has so much to see. Are you interested in museums and castles( 城堡) ?Or do you want to get to know anything modern?

Cyber Boy 5-26-2019 3:02 p.m.

Yoshi---Good question. I’d like to see some museums, but I also want to try some of famous food in France, and a castle would also be great.

Pencil: I am sorry.

Eraser: For what? You didn’t do anything wrong.

Pencil: I’m sorry because you get hurt because of me. Whenever I make a mistake, you’re always there to clean it up. But when you make my mistakes disappear, you also lose a part of yourself. You get smaller and smaller each time.

Eraser: That’s true. But I don’t really mind. You see, I am made to do this. I am made to help you whenever you make a mistake. I know I’ll be gone one day and you’ll take my place with a new eraser. But I’m actually happy with my job. So please, stop worrying. I don’t want to see you feeling sad.

Actually parents are like erasers and their children are like pencils. They’re always there for their children, cleaning up their mistakes. Sometimes they get hurt along the way. They become smaller, older and even pass away after all. Though they cannot be with their children for life, parents are still happy with what they do for their children and always hope that their loved ones can be happy.

I am the pencil and the erasers are my parents. They are getting older and smaller, leaving behind eraser pieces and memories. I know that I will be the eraser one day, doing the same thing that my parents used to do for me.

If you are in Shanghai and want to throw away a cup of milk tea, be careful. You need to follow these steps: first, pour out any milk tea left into a wet waste bin; second, put the paper wrapper (包装材料) into a recyclable waste bin; third, throw the single-use cup and straw (吸管) into a dry waste bin.

Sounds complex ? You’ll have to get used to it. From July 1 on, people in Shanghai are required to separate their garbage according to strict rules. Many other cities in China are planning to create similar garbage -separating rules.

Why should we separate our garbage? The answer lies in the increasing of waste we are producing. Chinese cities produce over 200 million tons of waste each year, according to Chinese Economic. Most of this waste is buried (填埋), which may pollute water and soil! In addition, we are running out of space.

In fact, more than half of our waste can be recycled. Recyclable garbage can be made into new materials, while wet garbage can be used to make gas, heat and fertilizer (肥料). So in order to recycle better, we need to separate our garbage.

Can’t garbage-processing companies do the separating job for us? They can. But that requires a lot of work and costs lots of money. Things will become much easier if each of us can separate our own garbage. Besides, the hard task of separating might encourage people to produce less waste. Do you still want to buy that milk tea?
