Sometimes, laughter can help us discover the beauty of life. Whether it's caused by joy or embarrassment, it's an indispensable(不可或缺的) part of life.

Just now, an old photo reminded me of an unforgettable experience. When I was twelve years old, my family flew to America to go on a trip. The fantastic places of interest left me good memories. However, on the last day of the journey, I made a funny mistake.

That evening, my mother asked me to buy some food by myself. I ran to the supermarket happily. After a while, I put a few things, including a bag of bone-like biscuits, into the shopping basket that I had brought from home.

When I came back to the hotel, I asked my mom if she took pride in me. Suddenly, she started laughing loudly. I had no idea what had made her laugh so much. A few minutes later, she explained to me that the bag of biscuits was dog food. She looked at me and pointed at the English words on the bag, laughing again. At that moment, I felt so awkward(尴尬的) that my face turned red right off. And I realized that I could never be too careful.

As time goes by, I've forgotten a number of things, but this memory is still clear. Life won't be colorful unless we can find beauty in little things like this. Don't you think so?

For many teenagers, they might just do their homework and spend time with friends. Not so for Emma Yang. At the age of 14,the Hong Kong-born Yang has already created her own mobile app for Alzheimer's patients(阿尔茨海默病人), which Bill Gates likes. Yang named it Timeless. The AI technology has been used to help Alzheimer's patients identify people in photos and remember who they are.

The inspiration(灵感) to develop an app that would help Alzheimer's patients connect with their loved ones came to Yang at the age of 12,when her grandmother suffered from the similar illness.

"I wanted to create something to help people like my grandmother. I started learning coding(编码) when I was around 6,and later began developing games and websites," Yang said. For teenagers, especially who are going to take part in the big tests, every second is valuable and we should rethink of the ways of spending our time. Whether you have spent your time in a proper way? Here are some good suggestions for you to take.

Firstly, spend time in doing things that are really important. Spend time with your family and friends, and share your feelings and thoughts with them. Enjoy a nice hot meal and eat it slowly. Give yourself time to play and spend enough time in sleeping. Little things like this may seem meaningless. But the truth is that little things matter most in life.

Secondly, you have to know what has been done cannot be undone. Do not allow your mind to stay in the past. Every day is a new start. You have to keep your eyes and ears open to the new chance. It may not be a chance you can get immediately, but it may be a chance for new experiences.

Then, do your best in every task. If you have only one chance to do something for someone, why not do it with the best of your ability? It should not matter whether you are being praised or not. You will take pride in your work because you've done your best. Trust me, your efforts will be rewarded in time.

Lastly, every moment you spend in doing things is the time taken from your life. Don't waste your time away working day and night just for money. That is not your life's worth. The value of your time is measured by how you spend it and whom you choose to spend it with.

D.We should pay less attention to little things.

2.Why shouldn't we stay in the past according to the passage?

A.Because the past is not important. B.Because we should have new experiences.

C.Because we have many tasks to do. D.Because a new choice is right there.

3.Which is NOT true about the passage?

A.All little things are meaningless. B.Try your best to do every task.

C.We will get something if we try our best. D.Spending your time wisely is important.

4.What does the sentence "every moment you spend in doing things is the time taken from your life" in the last paragraph refer to(指的是)?

Rain helps plants grow and stay green. But too much rain-especially in cities-can cause flooding. And that can make waste water systems, like sewers(下水道), flow and send polluted water into rivers and other water ways. So several cities in the United States are stating programs like rooftop(屋顶) gardens.

A team at the University of the District of Columbia has created a garden on the top of one school building.83The garden holds many kinds of plants to help receive rain water and grow food at the same time.

"It took advantage of the resource above the city that you see all over where you have these flat roofs that aren't doing anything and it really made it something that was about urban agriculture."

84Rainwater is collected in large bottles and sent through a system that waters the garden at the top of the roof. The roof is filled with green life that appeals(吸引) to insects.

"In cities, you don't have that much space, so rooftops are just unused space," says Caitlin Arlotta, a student in the school's Urban Agriculture program.

The program is growing plants including strawberries, tomatoes and sweet potatoes. "We have the same experiment running with tomatoes as we do with strawberries, so we're doing variety trials(品种实验) and we're trying just to see which variety grows the best in a green roof setting."

The program also seeks to improve cities and make them beautiful by training people to become Master Gardeners.

It is the biggest surprise that they produced 4,250 pounds of products the first year and shared that to people in need.
