Coco(《寻梦环游记》), Disney’ s latest cartoon movie, did a successful job in showing the afterlife and people’s memories(记忆) of their dead family members.

The movie comes from the Mexican(墨西哥) holiday of Dia de los Muertos(亡灵节). The young boy Miguel loves music so much. However, his family all say NO to his musical dream. That really lets him down, so he runs away from home. On Dia de los Muertos, he goes to the “Land of the Dead” by accident(偶然). There, Miguel meets his dead family members and has an adventure(冒险). Only after the experience does he know how much his family love him.

In the movie, the “Land of Dead” is not a scary place. There are friendly skeletons(骷髅). On Dia de los Muertos, they can cross a bridge of flowers to “visit” their living family members. Inventions makes our life easier and better than before. Time magazine listed the 25 best inventions in the Year 2017. Let’s take a look at some of them.

iPhone X

Right now, Jibo can only do some easy things, like taking photos or reading the news to you. But it may learn to do new things in the future.

The way we spend our time can be divided into three “bottles”. These are the necessary tasks(任务) bottle, the voluntary(自愿的) tasks bottle and the happiness bottle.

Every day, we spend time filling the necessary tasks bottle with useful things, like making money, buying food and paying bills. We then fill another bottle with voluntary tasks. These are things that we do for others, but we may not enjoy them. This bottle gets filled with tasks like taking children to activities, cooking family meals, and washing your husband’s socks. Those bottles are very important. If we don’t fill them each day, our family won’t run well.

However, we often forget to fill the third bottle—the happiness bottle that we fill with enjoyable activities. Is your happiness bottle sometimes empty at the end of the day? Between doing all the necessary and voluntary tasks, time flies fast, and before we know it, it is time for bed. We all have days like that.

This is why each day we must try to fill our happiness bottle. I usually fill mine by going to the dancing class. But this week, I had the happiness of taking part in a guitar practice in my neighborhood. We showed our musical talent and practiced music for charity. It was a time of fun, friendship and music making. At the end of the evening, my happiness bottle was filled to top.

.Will your activities bring joy to your life? Are the other two tasks eating up all your time? Try to find ways to achieve a balance(平衡) between how you fill your three bottles.

1.Which activity is NOT a necessary task?

A.Making money B.Paying bills C.Sending your son to a piano lesson Sunday

2.What does the underlined word “it” mean in Paragraph 3?

A.Doing the necessary task B.Doing the voluntary task C.Time flies fast

B.By going to the dancing class

C.By taking part in a guitar practice

4.Which of the following is the best for “ “ in the last paragraph?

A.Make sure to fill the necessary task bottles

B.So think about how you should spend your time

C.People will be happier by playing music.

5.What is the main idea of this passage?

A.We shouldn’t fill the task bottles with happiness

B.We should balance the three task bottles in life

C.We should always be happy

Elizabeth lived with her six children in a small house. One winter, there was a big flood(洪水), and quite a few houses were washed away, but Elizabeth’s house was high enough to escape(避开) it.

One of the families lost everything. Elizabeth helped it by sharing her home until the family could build a new house. Elizabeth’s friends could not understand her, because she already had so many children to look after.

“Well,” Elizabeth explained to her friends, “at the end of World War II, there was a poor woman in a town in England. Her husband had been killed in the war and she had a lot of children, just like me now. On Christmas Eve, this woman said to her children, ‘We won’t be able to have much for Christmas. I’m going to get just one present for us all. Now I’ll go and get it.’ She came back with a little girl who had no parents. The children were more than excited to get such a present. They welcomed the little girl warmly, and she grew up as their sister. I was that Christmas present.”

Big Ben(大本钟), will fall quiet for four years. 66.它是伦敦最受欢迎的地方之一。 But now it needs repairs. It has worked for 157 years. It sounded for the last time at noon on August 21 this year.

Four years would be a long time for London people. 67.Although they felt a little upset, they were still understanding. “It will be very sad, but it needs to be done,’ said Kirsten Hurrel. “68.I already prepared myself for the days without the rings for Big Ben.” About 2,5700 people went to hear Big Ben’s last rings. However, 69.如果有重要的事件,大本钟又会开始工作。 For example, it will spend the New Year’s Eve with its people and the speech of the Queen.

Well, this is not the first time in history that the bell has stopped. It stopped for repairs between 1983 and 1985, and again in 2007.

The bell is the largest bell in the country. It is about 13 tons, as heavy as two elephants. The repairs may cost about £ 29 million. By the year 2021 when it reappears, Big Ben will look totally newly-dressed. 70.“I believe most people in London are looking forward to that day,” said the chief engineer Adams White.
