A science fiction flying car looks like a normal car, but it is an aircraft(飞行器)that anybody can fly directly from any place to another without using roads or runways. Science fiction writers have written about flying cars for a long time. But now flying cars will soon fly out of the world of science fiction into our real world. And the dream of the science fiction writers will soon come true.

The first-known sky car is the FSC-1. The FSC-1 looks like an expensive sports car. You can drive the FSC-1 on the road like a normal car. If you touch a button, its wings and propeller (螺旋桨) fold out and then it can take off, fly and land as an airplane. The owners of the FSC-1 can choose if they want to drive or fly.

Another flying car or sky car is the Moller Skycar M400. Although you can’t drive it on the roads, it is small and easy to fly and can take off and land like a helicopter (直升飞机). Urban Aeronautics’ X-Hawk is another type of sky car. It is expected to be available for about $3 million.

Just like any new technology, flying cars have taken a long time to be developed. But some experts think the technology is far from what people imagine when they are sitting in traffic. It still needs to be improved.

Bassanio looked at the three boxes, but he didn't read the writing on them. He looked at the gold and silver. “The world is tricked by appearances,” he said. “People often hide ordinary things with beautiful gold, silver, and jewels. People always agree with those who speak well, even if they say foolish things. Many people who seem brave are cowards(懦夫). I don't want these beautiful boxes of gold and silver. I will choose the lead(铅) box with its ordinary colour. It speaks more to me than all the gold and silver in the world. Please give me the key to the lead box. Let happiness be mine.” When Bassanio opened the box and saw the picture of Portia inside it, he loved her even more because the picture was very beautiful, but Portia herself was even more beautiful than the picture.

The writing inside the box told him that he had chosen the right box. It said that he should go to Portia and look into her eyes. She would be his wife. Bassanio could not believe it.

“Is it really true? Will you really be my wife? I am afraid to believe it until you say so.” Bassanio asked Portia.

“Look at me,”said Portia. “I am yours. Everything I am and everything I have is yours. Until now, I was the ruler(统治者) of this palace, master of my servants, and queen of myself. Now the palace, the servants and I are yours. I give them to you with this ring. Let it always be the symbol(象征) of our love. If you lose this ring, or sell it, or give it away, it will mean that you no longer love me.

Fashion treadmill desks (跑步机办公室) might actually help improve job performance after employees get used to working while walking, according to new research.

A yearlong study of workers at a company St. Paul, Minn, found that the productivity of 40 treadmill users dropped at first because they were unable to master typing and operating a mouse while walking at a speed of up to two miles per hour.

But within four to six months, measures (测量) of performance-quality, the amount of work done, and the quality of interactions(互动) with workmates rose gradually, according to weekly surveys. At the end of the survey period, workers with treadmill desks improved their performance, which was 0.69 points higher than that before the project began.

For tasks like solving problems or taking conference calls, “ A little bit of walking is useful because it means there’s more blood flow to the brain,” said Avner Ben-Ner, a professor at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management and an author of the study. “ You get more oxygen (氧气) and it increases the ability to think .”

Treadmill desks have got attention because of research which showed the negative (负面的,消极的)effects of sedentary lifestyles and jobs that leave workers sitting all day. But data on the effectiveness of the desks has been relatively rare.

There are other downsides (不利方面) , as The Wall Street Journal wrote last year, including the possibility of falls and injuries.

Mr. Ben-Ner noted that treadmill users need some time to get used to the ergonomics (人体工程学) of walking while working, including the proper desk height. His team provided no training to employees, and he said that employers who provide such desks should offer help to get users comfortable on the machines.

“This wouldn’t be very good for people who use a needle for their jobs,” he said. “ But everyone who does brain work knows that if you need fresh ideas, taking a walk helps.”

1.According to the passage, fashion treadmill desks offer users many advantages EXCEPT to_______.

A. improve their quality of work B. increase their amount of work

C. make their health become better and better D. keep good relationships with workmates

2.Which of the following does Mr. Ben-Ner agree?

A. People can do different kinds of work when walking on treadmill.

B. The treadmill desks are fit for people solving difficult problems.

C. The more oxygen you get, the better your mood is.

D. A little walk can make your brain work more actively.

3.The underlined part “sedentary “in Paragraph 6 probably means leading a life with ____________.

A. much sitting B. daily stress C. no money D. great worry

I needed to buy a digital camera, one that was just good at taking good photos, maybe sometimes for magazines. I went online, spent 15 minutes reading product reviews on good websites, wrote down the names of three top recommendations and headed for my nearest big friendly camera store. There in the cupboard was one of the cameras on my list. And it was on special offer. I pointed at it and asked an assistant, “Can I have one of those?” He looked perturbed (不安).“Do you want to try it first?” he said. It didn’t quite sound like a question. “Do I need to?” I replied. “There’s nothing wrong with it?” This made him look a bit unhappy and I started to feel bad. “No, no. But you should try it.” he said. “Compare it with the others.”

I looked across at the others: shelves of similar cameras along the wall, offering a wide range(范围) of slightly different prices and discounts, with each company selling a range of models based around the same basic box. With so many models to choose from, it seemed that I would have to spend hours weighing X against Y, always trying to take Z and possibly H into my choice. But when I had finished, I would still have only the same two choices that I had entered the store with: first, soon after I carried my new camera out of the shop, it would be worth half what I paid for it; and second, my wonderful camera would veryquickly be replaced by a new model.

In the end, I agreed to try the model I had chosen. The assistant seemed a nice man. So I let him take out my chosen camera from the cupboard, show how it took excellent pictures of some shoppers... and when he started to introduce the special parts, I stopped him and asked whether I needed to buy a carry-case and a memory card as well.

Why do we think that new choices still offer us anything new? Perhaps it is because they offer a chance to prevent facing the fact that our real choices in this culture are far more limited than we would like to imagine.

1.The shop assistant insisted that the writer should __________.

A. try the camera to see if there was anything wrong with it

B. compare the camera he had chosen with the others

A. The camera would soon fall in value. B. The price of the camera was very high.

C. The quality of the camera was not good. D. He should get a 50% discount.

3.The writer decided to try the model he had chosen because he __________.

A. knew very little about it

B. didn’t believe the shop assistant

C. had a special interest in taking pictures of shoppers

D. wanted to make sure the one he chose would be the best

4.It can be inferred(推断)from the passage that in the writer’s opinion, __________.

A. people waste too much money on cameras

B. cameras have become an important part of our daily life

C. we don’t actually need so many choices when buying a product

D. famous companies care more about the money they can make than quality

The hardest thing in the world is saying yes to the world. Do you say yes to the world? Most of us have a habit of going through our days saying no to the things we don’t like and yes to the things we like, and yet, everything we face is our life. We won’t say yes to the things we do not like, because we are afraid that we will not remove them forever.

But in fact, it is only through accepting the existence(存在) of what’s not working for us that we can begin to change our ideas. When we say yes to the world, we begin to believe that whatever our situation is, we can work with it. We express belief in ourselves, and the world, and we also express a willingness to learn from whatever happens to us, rather than running and hiding when we don’t like what we see. Therefore, in one word, saying yes is really good for our life.

The question we might ask ourselves is what it will take to get to the point of saying yes. For some of us, it takes dealing with something we can’t run away from or refuse, and so we have no choice but to say yes. For others, they might make a decision to say yes to life no matter what happens to them. Saying yes to life might be difficult at first, and even painful at times, but if we continue to say yes to life, it will be far less difficult in the end. And we will find the joy of being in a positive(积极的) talk to the world with a very powerful word ‘yes’. We should accept everything life puts in front of us.

Attitude towards life

Most of us are 1. to saying yes to what we like and saying no to what we don’t like.

The 2. of saying no

Advantages of saying yes

We can begin to change our thoughts.

We can work with our problem whatever it is.

We can believe in ourselves and our world.

We are 3. to learn from whatever happens to us.

Conclusion

For us all, it will be much 4. to say yes to life if we keep doing so.

5. in life should be accepted whether we like it or not.
