As young students, you have many dreams. These dreams can be very big, such as winning the Nobel
Prize, they can also be small, such as becoming one of the best students in your class.
Once you find a dream, what do you do with it? Do you ever try to make your dreams real?
Andrew Matthews, an Australian writer, tells us that making your dreams real is life's biggest challenge
(挑战). You may think you're not very good at some school subjects, or that it's impossible for you to
become a writer. Those kinds of ideas stop you from realizing (实现) your dream.
In fact, everyone can realize his dream. The first thing you must do is to remember what your dream is.
Don't let it leave your heart. Keeping telling yourself what you want every day and then your dream will
come true faster. You should know that a big dream is, in fact, made up of many small dreams.
You must also never give up your dream. There will be difficulties on the road to your dreams. But the
biggest difficulty comes from yourself. You need to decide what is the most important. Studying instead of
watching TV will help you to get better exam results, while saving five yuan instead of buying an ice cream
means you can buy a new book.
As you get closer to dream, it may change a little. This is good as you have the chance to learn some-
thing more useful and find new hobbies.

Whenever we meet with difficulty or failure (失败), teachers, parents or others often say to us "Never
give up." These can be encouraging words. A person should believe in himself and keep trying to be
successful no matter how many times he fails. Therefore, I believe that we should never give up.
One reason is that if we give up too easily, we will seldom achieve anything. It is not unusual for us to
fail in something new, so we should try again. Besides, if we always give up when we fail , we will not be
able to develop new skills and grow.
Another reason is that we can learn from our mistakes so as not to do the same things again. If we do
not try once more, the lesson we have learned is wasted.
Finally, we should never give up because as we work to reach our goals, we develop confidence, and
this confidence can help us succeed in other areas of our lives. If we never challenge(挑战) ourselves,
we will begin to doubt our abilities.
In short, it is important that we do not give up when working for our goals. We succeed in the end or
not, we will learn something , and what we learn will help us to become better and more confident.
What's more, if we give up , we have no chance of realizing our dreams any more , but if we keep making
great efforts, there is always a chance that we will be successful one day.

One man was reading a newspaper on the deck of a ship.Suddenly it blew strongly, the man's hat
was blown into the sea. He touched his head with his hand and went on reading his newspaper.
There was a person beside him who was surprised and told him: "Sir. Your hat was blown into the
sea. "  "I see. Thanks. " He said and then read the newspaper again.    "But your hat is  worth a lot of
money. "  "Yes,  I am thinking of how to save money and buy another one.  I lost my hat,  I felt very
sorry. But can it come back?"
It is true that the lost thing  sometimes  will never return.  It is better to think of ways to solve the
problem than trying to find it.
Many people have such experience (经历) that lost something valuable (有价值的)or important.
Then they would feel very sorry and bitter.  Why? It is because they can't adjust(调整) our attitude
(态度) to such things. And only think about the things which will never return. But I think we should
think about how to get the new one instead of regretting(遗憾) only.

Second, is the goal you are trying to reach the right one? Try to do some thinking about what your
real goal may be. Think about this question ,"lf I do succeed in this ,where will it get me?"This may
prevent you from doing things you shouldn't do.

I've loved my mother's desk since I was just tall enough to see above the top of it as Mother sat
doing letters. Standing by her chair, looking at the ink bottle, pens, and white paper, I decided that the
act of writing must be the most wonderful thing in the world.
Years later, during her final illness, Mother kept different things for my sister and brother. "But the
desk," she'd said again, "is for Elizabeth. "
I never saw her anger, never saw her cry. I knew she loved me; she showed it in action. But as a
young girl, I wanted heart-to-heart talks between mother and daughter.
They never happened. And a gulf opened between us. I was too "emotional (另动感情的) ".  But
she lived "on the surface".
As years passed, I had my own family, I loved my mother and thanked her for our happy family. I
wrote to her in careful words and asked her to let me know in any way she chose that she did forgive
(原谅) me.
I posted the letter and waited for her answer. None came.
My hope turned to disappointment, then little interest, finally, peace. It seemed that nothing happened.
I couldn't be sure that the letter had even got to Mother. I only knew I had written it, and I could stop
trying to make her into someone she was not.
Now the present of her desk told me, as she'd never been able to, that she was pleased that writing
was my chosen work. I cleaned the desk carefully and found some papers inside-a photo of my father
and a one-page letter, folded (折叠) and refolded many times.
Give me the answer, my letter asks, in any way you choose. Mother, you always chose the act that
speaks louder than words.
1. The writer began to love her mother's desk _____
A. after Mother died
B. before she became a writer

German. It means that we need to take care of friends like we take care of a garden." Mr Tulga says, "My
grandfather in Turkey told me, 'Nobody is so rich that he can throw away a friend.' It means that everyone
needs friends. Be good to them."
