Shopping on the Internet is becoming more and more popular. Why do people use the Internet to shop?
Some people say it is more convenient. They don't have to leave their homes to order something; they can
shop for anything they want at any time; they can find things for sale that they can't find in the stores near
their homes. Still other people say they can find better prices on the Internet.
If you want to buy something on the Internet, you need a credit (信用) card. You have to type your
credit card number and information on the website (网页) and send them to the store over the Internet. You
have to be sure that the store will not use your information in the wrong way. You don't want someone to
get your credit card number, so be careful with it, beause people sometimes steal (窃取) credit card numbers
from stores.
The Internet is also a good place to go window-shopping. Window-shopping is when you look at the
things for sale in a store, but don't plan to buy anything. In window-shopping you can see what kinds of things
you are able to get and how much they cost. Some stores like Ross Stores have a website for information
about their stores, but not for shopping. Some stores have a website for information about their stores, and
can shop on-line there, such as Office Depot, Payless Shoe Source, Safeway. Some stores like Amazon. com
are only for on-line shopping.

Last Friday after I got my pay, I went shopping on my way home. In the crowded supermarket, I lost
my purse and my money was gone with it. I felt very angry and sad. We were not rich and the money was
important for us. How could I tell my wife about it?
I felt really sorry for losing the money. When I got home, I cleaned the house and prepared a nice meal.
I hoped what I did could comfort (安慰) my wife. When she came back, she was surprised to see the clean
house and the nice meal. Then I began to tell my story when we were at table, but my wife didn't respond
(反映) as if she had not heard my words. Maybe she was trying hard to hide her anger, I thought.
"I've lost my pay." I said to her again.
"I see." She didn't seem to be angry with me. For a moment, she said nothing but enjoyed the meal with
me.
"I've lost my money," I could not help asking, "why don't you blame (责备) me?"
"Oh, my dear," she raised her eyes, looked at me and said, "I'm thinking about how to comfort you. It's
the thief who is to be blamed!"

I am a professor of sports and exercise so I often deal with nervousness in my research with sports
people. Actually, most people experience nervousness at some time or another.
If you are feeling anxious, my advice is to first find the cause or causes. Make s list of those things that
are making you nervous and work out which ones you can do something about. Focus all of your efforts on
managing the causes that you can control.
Most people cannot tell the difference between controllable (可控制的) and uncontrollable causes, so
things they can's control become a big reason for nervousness. Dealing with this is very important if people
want to keep a healthy mind.
Simply try to accept the uncontrollable causes of nervousness. You might be worried about the weather
on a big day, an accident or an attack on the train, or perhaps just things that other people are doing at work.
The results may be very important but there is still no use worrying because you can't control any of these
things. Accept that you can't control everything. Once you understand this, it becomes easier not to worry.
If a situation, such as swimming, is causing you to be anxious, try to face it as often as possible so that
you can get used to it.
It can often help to think about yourself doing the thing that makes you nervous-then close your eyes and
imagine it going well. Imagine how the flight or job interview is going to happen so that you can get used to it.
This will help you understand that the thing you fear most is probably not going to happen.

Look closely at your hands. Are they clean? It doesn't matter how many times you wash your hands, tiny
microbes (微生物) still stay on them. But don't worry. Most microbes don't harm you. Now scientists say the
microbes on our hands could be used in a surprising way; fighting crime, According to a recent survey
microbes as well as fingerprints (指纹) could be used to indentify the criminal.
Everyone has his own set of microbes on the hands. That is to say, if you and your best friend were able
to see and compare all the microbes on your hands, your hands probably would look different. Some microbes
only show up on your hands while others live only on your friend's hands.
When you work on a computer you leave the microbes from your hands on the keyboard. The scientists
can easily tell the owner of the keyboard by looking at the microbes on it. Even if you don't leave your
fingerprints behind, your microbes may give you away.
Noah Fierer, a scientist, says. "You can only clean a fingerprint, but you can't sterilize (使无菌) a surface
just by wiping (擦) it off," He says that scientists have a lot more work to do before the microbe is used as a
useful tool.
