Dear Parents,

Young People’s Day Camp (YPDC) has been providing wonderful summers for the children of Central New Jersey since 1972. Now we are preparing for a new summer and it will be our most exciting summer ever.

Our camp is in beautiful Roosevelt Park with a library and a museum. As a former (昔日的) baseball player, I feel the need to keep teenagers healthy. So we will offer a special training program. This program will cover different sports for each child through the summer camp.

Transportation (交通车辆)

We use 20-passenger buses. We will pick up (接) each child between 7:30 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. with door to door transportation. Children will be home between 3:45 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Every day my son came home happily. He talked about how much fun he had and what he did. Before the summer was even over, he said, “Mom, I want to go back next year. I would like to say thank you and I will see you all next summer.”

Please feel free to call us with any questions. I will always make myself available for both you and your children throughout the year. Phone: 732-768-2279.

First thing in the morning, I checked Face Book only to see how I’ve already fallen behind. A workmate has written a new book. Two of my heroes have completed a big project. One of my old college friends posted a video for an online program she’s talking. She looks successful, shiny and charming.1.

Am I really falling behind? Did these people post any of these things in order to make me feel bad? Of course not. But if I’m not careful it’s terribly easy to see social media(社会媒体) as a reminder(提醒) of all the things I’m not doing.

2.It’s a comparison problem. It’s all about how we think about it. I know it’s not just me. Our culture is full of comparisons, and it’s not hard to look around at what other people are doing with their short time, and ask”What about me?” Comparisons can make you not believe yourself. 3.

Don’t compare your insides with someone else’s outsides.4.

Don’t act like it was effortless or pure luck. It’s much easier to look at someone “up there”and be jealous of what they have than to be happy for them and make yours better. Have a clear understanding of yourself.

5.You’re neither better than nor worse than anyone in the world. Be yourself and do your best.

A. You have no idea what it took for other people to get where they are.

B. I feel bad because I’m still in bed, sleepy-eyed.

C. But this isn’t a social media problem.

D. Don’t compare your life with those of others.

E. So how to deal with this problem seems very necessary and important

Computers can injure (伤害)you. Most other injuries happen suddenly. For example, if you fall off a bike and break your arms, it happens very quickly. But computer injuries happen slowly.

You probably know how to ride a bike safely. Now learn to use a computer safely.

Your eyes

Too much light can injure your eyes, so never sit too close to a computer screen. Your eyes should be at least 50 centimeters(厘米)from the screen. Remember to look away from it sometimes. This gives your eyes a rest.

When you use a computer, the window should be on your left or your right. If it is behind you, the light will reflect on(反射)the screen. If the window is in front of you, the sun and the screen will both shine into your eyes.

Your hands and wrists

Hand and wrist injuries can happen because the hands and wrists are moved in the same way hundreds of times. If you use a keyboard for a long time, follow these three rules: 1)Rest your wrists on something. 2)Keep your elbows(肘)at the same height as the keyboard. 3)Stop sometimes and exercise your hands, wrists and fingers in a different way.

Your back

Some people sit for many hours in front of a computer. If you sit in the wrong way, you can injure your back or your neck. So you should sit with your back straight. The top part of the screen should be in front of your eyes. Your forearms, wrists, hands and the upper part of your legs should all be parallel(平行)to the floor. If you are sitting for a long time, get up every 30 minutes and exercise your arms, legs and neck.

Enjoy your computer, but use it safely.

Simon Reeve has visited many countries and has become one of our most popular TV travel-show presenters (节目主持人). His programs are different from other ones because he goes to unusual countries and he shows us more than the tourist attractions (旅游景点). From his programs, we also learn about the people in the countries, the way of life and the wildlife. I asked him about his work.

(Q=Question; A=Answer)

Q: 1.

A: I started to work as a TV presenter in 2003. Before that, I was a reporter and writer. In my first travel show, I visited countries in central Asia, such as Kazakhstan.

Q: 2.

A: I’ve made nine travel TV series (电视系列节目). In three of those shows, I traveled around the world in a circle (圆圈)—they were very long journeys! In my most recent series, I went to Australia.

Q: 3.

A: Perhaps you should ask which countries I haven’t visited! I think I’ve traveled to more than 110 countries, but I haven’t been to the North and South Poles. Perhaps I’ll go soon.

Q: 4.

A: Ah, one of my favorite places is the Kalahari Desert in southern Africa. I went there in 2007. It’s really beautiful and a lot greener than a typical desert. I met the San people there, and I learned a lot from them.

Q: 5.

A: The most important thing that I’ve learned is that human beings are very special animals. We can change and live in any environment. Also, in all these different places, with all these different ways of life, our children are always the most important things for us.

Many people say dolphins are intelligent. They seem to be able to think, understand and learn things quickly. But are they as smart as humans, or are they more like cats and dogs? Dolphins use their brains quite differently from the way humans do. But scientists say dolphins and humans are very similar in some ways. How?

Like humans, every dolphin has its own "name". The name is a special whistle (哨声). Each dolphin chooses a specific (特有的) whistle for itself, usually by its first birthday Dolphins are like people in other ways, too. They "talk" to each other about a lot of things-such as their age, their feelings, and finding food. They also use a system of sounds and body language to communicate. Understanding dolphin conversation is not easy for humans. No one "speaks dolphin" yet, but some scientists are trying to learn.

Dolphins are also social animals. They live in groups called pods, and they often join others from different pods to play games and have fun--just like people. Scientists believe playing together is something only intelligent animals do.

Dolphins and humans are similar in another way: both species make plans for getting things they want. In the seas of southern Brazil, for example, dolphins use an intelligent plan to get food. When there are fish near a boat, dolphins signal (发信号) to the fishermen to put their nets in the water. Using this method, the men can catch a lot of fish. Why do dolphins help the men? There is an advantage for them they get to eat some of the fish that escape (逃脱) from the net.

1.What is a dolphin's “name”?

A. It is a kind of game.

B. It is a body sign.

C. It is a dolphin’s age.

D. It is a specific sound.

2.What does the underlined word "others" refer to?

A. Other fishes.

B. Other people

C. Other dolphins

D. Other games

3.What can we infer from the passage?

A. Some scientists can understand dolphins system of sounds.

B. Dolphins probably help fishermen by using their body language.

C. Humans join dolphins' groups to get things we want.

D. Dolphins can talk to humans about their age and their feelings.

4.What's the main idea of the passage?

A. Dolphins can communicate with each other at birth.

B. Dolphins are social animals because they play together.

C. Dolphins are smart and are like humans in some ways.

D. Dolphins help humans do many things like catching fish.
