Rock climbing did not become a sport until late in the 1900s. But now it has become a popular outdoor activity. While rock climbing may still be necessary for mountain climbing, most people just climb low mountains for fun.

If you have ever done rock climbing, you will know that it is not a very easy sport. Indoor and outdoor rock climbing both need practice. What most people don’t know is that rock climbing is one of the sports that depend on your body and mind.

To climb successfully, one must use wonderful skills. One of the important rules is to always have three parts of your body on the rock face. Another important rule is that your arms only hold you close to the rock face while your legs are pushing you up. The closer you are to the rock face, the easier it is to climb.

Rock climbing is a wonderful sport. Once you start to learn how to climb, you’ll find more fun. People who like games such as chess playing or problem-solving may love rock climbing, because they are nearly the same in the way of thinking. For anyone who wants to get into beautiful shape, rock climbing is a fun and good way. Anyone who enjoys a difficult game and loves the outdoors should think of taking rock climbing as a new hobby.

Four years ago, I, a 17-year-old girl, arrived at Wellesley College. I cried when my parents dropped me off in my dormitory (宿舍). I thought to myself, “This is what loneliness feels like.” Just at that time, I had forgotten how excited I was for college.

Four years has nearly passed, I am now 21 years old, just two months from graduating from college. Once again, I have reached a critical juncture (紧要关头) in my life where I am going to be alone in a new way.

In four years, I have experienced a lot, happy time, sad moment and ordinary days. How grateful I am for the ones who have shown me the way and taught me to be strong when I felt hopeless. How lucky I am to know that I have a home to return to, a home where chaos (混乱) and arguments may occur, but where I still feel safe. A place where I am loved unconditionally, regardless of my mistakes.

Tomorrow, my mother turns 50. It is because of my mother that I’ve learned to love myself, to respect myself, and above all, to be a good person. It is because of her that even throughout all of my hardships and struggles, I have known that giving up is not and will not ever be a choice. It is because of her that I have truly learned the lesson that age is only a number, and what matters is your spirit and character.

My mother and I have sometimes clashed (冲突) head. She is the strongest person I know, the person who I disagree most. She has told me that I am the only person that is responsible for my life. But today I have to tell her that she has been wrong.

She doesn’t realize that there is another person who will never leave me. There’s another person who will always there for me and who will love me forever. That person is her. She is the first person I will call when I am sad, in trouble, or feeling blue. She will never lie to me to spare my feelings (不使我伤心).

I have come so far these fast four years. I still have a long life to live. A life that I hope will be full of adventure, success, and happiness. Although my mum was right when telling me that I am the only one responsible for what happens in my life. Mom, you’ve helped me so far. You are my hero. One day I hope to be like you.
