I have never taken cooking classes. I learned cooking from my mother because she was really interested in teaching me how to cook. The main reason for this was because when my mother got married(结婚), she didn't know how to cook anything, not even an egg. My grandmother never let her stay in the kitchen when she was cooking.

My mother did not start to cook until she was 25 years old. In the beginning, it was very hard for her. So, she had to take cooking classes to prepare our meals. After having that experience, she decided to teach me how to cook because she didn't want me to have the same experience.

I remember when I was seven years old, and my mother was cooking, I was with her in the kitchen enjoying cooking. I always helped her. Sometimes we prepared meals that my mother already knew how to make, and sometimes we prepared them from recipes. Nowadays, I am really thankful for that experience because I don't need help to cook a meal. I can cook for me alone or for a group of people, it doesn't matter.

I will do the same with my children because I don't want them to have the same experience as my mother. If one day I am not with them, I want to be sure that they can carry on their own lives.

Everyone needs friends in life. Friendship Day is a day for us to say thank you to our friends. It started in the USA and soon it became popular around the world. In 1998 the United Nations (联合国) named Winnie the Pooh as the world's Ambassador (大使) of Friendship. In 2011, it declared (宣布) July 30 as International Friendship Day. However, many countries celebrate it on the first Sunday of August and some other days.

On Friendship Day people spend time with their friends and give gifts to each other. They may buy cards, write special songs or make friendship cakes. When I was 10, I got a special gift for the day. It was a book about China. My love of Chinese culture started with it.

Friends are very important to us. We start making friends almost from the time we can walk. Most people have special childhood (童年) friends, and some of them become their life-long friends. As for me, friends are often like family. In fact, I spent more time with my friends than with my family when I was a student. I also told my friends more secrets (秘密).

With the use of the Internet, people can also send (发送) messages and e-mails to friends who live far from them. And many people make new friends online. The Internet is also helpful to find long-lost friends. That is to say, we can find our old friends through the Internet and start the friendship again.
