If you think you are too shy and want to be a little outgoing, try the following. You can make it.
Tell people you are shy. Just let people know that you are a shy kid. When they know that, they’ll understand you better. This also helps you feel more at home when talking with others.
Try to smile more. People think you are friendly and easy to talk to. Remember that most of us would like to talk to friendly people and we will stay away from an angry-looking face.
Talk to others first. If you find it hard to do, say something nice about people around you. Think about how great you feel when someone says something nice to you. Doesn’t it make you want to keep talking to those people?
Turn your attention to somewhere else. Think more about ways to enjoy the party or the game. Don’t worry about your looks or care if people like you.
Reward(奖励) yourself. Each time after you say “hi” or smile at someone for the first time , say to yourself “You did it!” or buy yourself an ice cream.

If you have a brother or sister, you already know you are different from each other. You live together in the same house and the same parents, but you have different personalities(性格).
Why is this? One possible reason is the way your parent treat you.
First –born children receive all the attention from their parents. Most families have twice as many photos of a first-born than any other child. Parents usually give first-born more responsibility and depend on them to take care of younger brothers and sisters. As a result, first -born are often responsible, hard-working, and jealous(嫉妒的). They often want to do well at school and work. There are more first-born American Presidents, for example, George Bush, George Washington, and Lyndon Baines Johnson than second or last-born children.
When a second child arrives, parents are more relaxed. The second child has to compete(媲美) with the first-born for the parents’ attention and love. Their children often choose different sports and hobbies to do well at school and work, but have to be creative to get their family’s attention. They are often friendly and cool. Many famous talk-show hosts were born last.

There is an old English saying. It tells us that we must go to bed early and get up early in the morning. Then we shall be healthy. We shall also be rich and clever. This is true. The body must have enough sleep to be healthy. Children of young age should have ten hours’ sleep every night. Children who do not have enough sleep cannot do their work well and they may not be healthy.
The body also needs exercise. Walking, running, jumping and playing games are all exercise. Exercise keeps the body strong.

People all over the world write to Big Ben. They even send birthday presents. Big Ben is not a person. It’s a clock. Big Ben is the great clock hanging up in a tower of the parliament building. The people of London like to see Big Ben’s four friendly faces. They like to hear the bell striking (敲)on the hour. Bong! Bong! Bong!
Big Ben’s story started in 1834. In that year the old parliament building was burned down. Its clock tower fell to the ground. There had to be a new building and a new clock. Plans were made. They called for a “King of Clock, the biggest and the best in the world”. So the clock had to be big. And it had to keep very good time. In two years the big clock was made. Five more years went by before the clock tower was last finished. Then the four bells for the chimes (鸣响) were brought into the tower. And at last the big hour bell was put in place. It rang out for the first time on July 11, 1859. This great bell had to have a name. A meeting of parliament was called to pick one. “This clock is the king of clocks,” one man said. “Let’s call the bell the Queen of Bells.” “Then why not Victoria?” said another (Victoria was the British queen (英国女王) at that time). The talk about names went on and on. Then Benjamin Hall got up to speak. He was a big man. By this time they were all tired. Someone shouted, “Why not call it Big Ben and be done with it?” Everybody laughed, and the meeting was over. But it was called Big Ben from then on. Not just the bell but the whole clock.
