It was a dark night. I saw bright light in my neighbor,Jack’s kitchen. I thought he could be having a midnight snack, so I went back to my bed. Soon, there was a burning smell and I thought something must be wrong. At once, I jumped out of bed and went downstairs to have a look. I saw a fire coming out of my neighbor’s kitchen. I shouted “Fire!” But there was no one nearby to hear my shouts for help. I ran quickly into my house and called the Fire Department and went back to my neighbor’s house. I knocked at the door and called my neighbor’s name, but there was no answer. I tried to break into the house and saved a cat and a rabbit. I tried to pour water through the kitchen window but it was no use. The fire was too big. Luckily, a fire engine arrived and the firemen put out the fire. When my neighbor came back, he was sad because his kitchen was burnt down, but he thanked me for calling the Fire Department and for saving his pets.
Several weeks later, my neighbor invited me to his home for dinner. At his new kitchen, he took a photo for me. Later on, he gave me the photo as a present. It made me very happy.

When I was a foreign teacher in China, every day I taught English to my students and they taught me about China. One day the topic mined to saying “I love you”.I was shocked to learn that not one of my students had said this to their mothers, nor had their mothers said it to them.“Does your mom love you?” “Of course,”they answered.
“How do you know?” was my logical question. They responded that their moms cooked and Always told them what they were doing wrong to show their earning.I was strummed. So mom's cooking and criticizing read our as “I love you”.”Then how do you say ‘I love you to her?” They agreed that getting good grades, followed by good jobs would be how they showed their love.
I come from a culture where most people are expressive enough,so I repeated these queries in clauses over time.Gradually,I began to get different responses. Some of them had exchanged those sentiments with their moms.
One of my favorite stories of change came from a girl. When she came home from university, her mother met her at the door and hugged(拥抱)her. This had never happened before, but her mom said,“Now that you have gone I have more time to myself.I noticed that in some places mothers and children hug each other and I decided it was a good idea and that I would begin hugging you.”
In my family we all say “I love you” a lot. While it is true that we often say the words without having great depth of feelings at that moment,it is almost like a blessing we give each other. Those three little words carry a world of meaning, even when said as a greeting, but most especially if they are the lax words we say to or hear from those we love.

Alice: Hi, Jerry, I heard you have fun with Peggy in Merry Park yesterday. Jerry: Yes. We had a great time there. Why didn’t you come with us? We got there by bus in only ten minutes. Alice: I know, but the ticket is more expensive on the weekend. Also, I’ve been there many times since it opened five years ago. Did you try the Dandelion Seat there? It’s so popular that people have to wait for over an hour to get a ride. Jerry: You mean those flower-like umbrellas that fly high in the sky? Alice: Yes. I enjoyed riding on the Dandelion Seat and looking over the city. It was a great experience. Jerry: Eh… I liked taking the train to get around the park better. I don’t think it’s fun to ride in the air. I’d feel like I could fall down any time. Alice: Maybe you would like it more at night. It’s wonderful to see the beautiful lights below your feet. Jerry: Well… I’m afraid of high places. Alice: Oh, I see. That’s too bad. 【小题1】What can we learn about Merry Park?
