2.C

3.. B

4..B

【解析】

试题分析:

1.通过in the 18th century“在十八世纪”可知,这里的“十八”是第十八的意思,应该用序数词,另外,十八世纪是一个世纪,所以不能用复数,所以本题应该选择A。

2.通过 they could cause (引起)people to die.可知,前一句的意思应该是“一些人说茶和咖啡对人是有害的。”故harmful应该是“有害的”意思。所以本题选C。

3..通过at last, the brother who had drunk tea every day died at the age of 83可知,喝茶的活到了83岁,A说over 83“超过83”是不对的;B说,在另一个死后多年,喝茶的死,根据the other died a few years later.可知,喝茶的比喝咖啡的先死的,所以B是不对的;D说,喝了几年茶就死了,明显与题意不符。所以本题选B。

4..通过tea and coffee got accepted (接受) and became popular as drink in Sweden,和where much tea and coffee is drunk today.

In the 13th century, the Italian traveler, Marco polo , traveled a long way to China , During his stay in China , he saw many wonderful things . One of the things he discovered was that the Chinese used paper money . In western countries , people did not use paper money until the 15th century . However , people in China began to use paper money in the 7th century .

A Chinese man called CaiLun invented paper almost 2000 years ago. He made it from wood . He took the wood from trees and made it into paper . He then put these pieces of paper together and made them into a book .

Now paper still comes from trees . We use a lot of paper every day ! If we keep on wasting so much paper , there will not be any trees on the earth . If there are no trees , there will be no paper . Every day , people throw away about 2800 tons (吨) of paper in our city . It takes 17 trees to make one ton of paper . This means that we are cutting nearly 48000 trees every day . Since it takes more than 10 years for a tree to grow , we must start using less paper now . If we don’t , we will not have enough time to grow more trees to take the place of those we use for paper .

So how can we save paper ? We can use both sides of every piece of paper , especially when we are making notes .We can choose drinks in bottles instead of those in paper packets . We can also use cotton handkerchiefs (手帕) and not paper ones . When we go shopping , we can use fewer paper bags . If the shop assistant does give us a paper bag, we can save it and reuse it later .

Everyone can help to save paper . If we all think carefully , we can help protect trees . But we should do it now , before it is too late .

The marathon(马拉松) in my town usually takes place in hot weather. My job was to follow the runners to help those who needed medical help. “We should stay behind the last runner, so take it slowly,” I said to the driver, Doug.

As it began, the front runners started to disappear(消失). Then I noticed a woman in blue running shorts and a white T-shirt. “ Doug, look!” We knew we were watching our “last runner”. Her feet turned in , yet her left knee turned out. Her legs were so crippled(畸形的) that it seemed impossible for her to be able to walk. How could she run a marathon?

We watched in silence as she slowly moved forward. We would move forward a little bit, then stop and wait for her. Then we would slowly move forward a little bit more. As I watched her try to put one foot in front of the other, I found myself breathing for her. I wanted her to stop, and at the same time, I hoped that she wouldn’t. Finally, she was the only runner left in sight. When the finishing line came into sight, we found the cheering people had all gone home. She slowly crossed through the line and lifted her hands, full of happiness.

I do not know the woman’s name, but since that day she has become a part of my life. For her, it was about finishing what she had set out to do, no matter what. When I think things are too difficult and want to say “I just can’t do it”, I think of the last runner. Then I realize how easy the task before me really is.

B.To beat the other runners

D.To finish what she had decided to do
