Aftershock , a movie about the 1976 Tangshan earthquake has made a new Chinese box office record since its opening on July 22, 2010 .

The movie’s director , Feng Xiaogang , one of Chine’s most successful directors , was pleased with the box office result .

Aftershock is about a mother’s 30-year life journey . She had to give up her daughter during the quake . She thought her daughter was lost in the earthquake . A survey on Sina.com shows nearly half of the 20,015 people surveyed said the movie was “very good and successful ”. About one quarter of those surveyed said the performers’ great acting moved them the most . In a popular movie theater in central Beijing , most of the people were moved to tears , as their weeping could be heard from time to time throughout the movie .

Also many people laughed when they saw advertisements in the story of the movie . The movie lasts two and a half hours , but there are fifteen minutes of advertisements , which caused criticism from the newspapers , TVs as well as the public .
