Two old men lived in a quiet street in Paris. They were friends and often went for walks together in the street when the weather was fine. Last Saturday they went for a walk by the river. There were many flowers everywhere and there were boats on the water. The two men walked happily for half an hour, and one of them said to the other,“That's a very beautiful girl.”“Where can you see a beautiful girl?”said the other.“I can't see one anywhere. I can see two young men. They're walking towards (朝着) us.”“The girl is walking behind us ,”said the first man quietly.“But how can you see her then?”asked his friend. The first man smiled and said,“I can't see her, but I can see the young men's eyes.”

Mrs. Brown’s old grandfather lived with her and her husband. Every morning he went for a walk in the park and came home at half past twelve for his lunch .
But one morning a police car stopped outside Mrs. Brown’s house at twelve o’clock, and two policemen helped Mrs. Brown to get out . One of them said to Mrs. Brown . “ The poor old man lost his way in the park and phoned to us for help , so we sent a car to bring him home . “ Mrs. Brown was very surprised , but she thanked the policemen and they left .
“ But , grandfather , ”she then said “ you have been to that park nearly every day for twenty years . How did you lose your way there ?”
The old man smiled , closed one eye and said , “ I didn’t quite lose my way , I just got tired and I didn’t want to walk home !”

Prime Minister(总理)Abdul Krim of Tyrea has said that the danger(战争)in the Middle East(中东)is greater now than for the past two years. His country does not want war, he says, but the Tyrean people have waited too long for an end to the troubles with their neighbours. If war comes, says Mr King, Tyrea will be ready.
Ben Kitson, the writer of stories and plays for children, has died at his home in California. Mr Kitson was 82. His most famous book of stories, The Gentleman’s House, sells all over the world, in more than twenty-five languages.
Policeman in New York have stopped work. Their leader(领导), Mr Paulo Angeli, says that they will return to work only when they receive more money for working long hours and doing what Mr Angel calls “the most dangerous job in the city.”
It has been a good year on the farm. The warm, wet spring, and the fine summer have been very good for all kinds of food plants. This means that fruit and vegetables will cost less in the shops this year.
