If cars could drive themselves, what would the world be like? Imagine(设想)seeing an empty car passing by on its way to pick up its owner, or a car full of passengers who are reading, listening to music or even sleeping. But none of them are worried about the road ahead.

Well, all of this could be the future of driving. There are several companies, including Google, working on driverless(无人驾驶的)cars. So far, no Google self-driven car has gotten a traffic ticket, but some of them have been in accidents when other cars hit them. These cars are now still in the testing stages(阶段).But, if the tests are successful, these electric self-driven cars could be put into use very soon.

The cars already have many features(特点)allowing them to take over from drivers during certain situations. Some features include cars being able to park(停车)themselves, or slow down when they notice objects close by. They can also control the speed if there are dangerous conditions.

Scientists and engineers believe, with the help of wireless signals(无线信号), cameras and GPS, we are now at a stage where creating a safe self-driven car might be possible.

The cause of deadly road accidents is usually careless drivers or dangerous conditions. The self-driven car may be able to prevent(阻止)these. However, some people do not like the idea. American lawyer Whit Drake, for example, doesn't believe these cars are safe. He thinks that technologies(技术)can also be mistakes.

A scientist made an experiment. She divided people into three groups and asked them to walk to a village.

The first group didn’t know the name of the village or how far the village is. They are made to follow the guide. Some people started to say they were unhappy to continue and show their dissatisfaction when they walked halfway. After then, most of them gave up walking on.

The second group were told the name and the distance of the village. When they walked halfway, they still had the courage to keep on. However, while they were walking to three quarters of the way, some people were tired and bored.

Not only had the third group gotten to know the name and the distance, but also there were some stones which showed how far they were from the village. They sang and talked along the way and finally got to the destination happily.

From the experiment, we found that the first group had the hardest time in reaching the destination because they didn’t know where the village was. However, the third group reached the village easily because they had goals on the way. People are more likely to succeed when they have their goals on the way of achieving their dreams.

1.The first group began to show their unhappiness _________ when walking to the village.

A.at the beginning of the way B.on the halfway

C.on the three quarters of the way D.at the end of the way

2.Which of the group was the most difficult of all to reach the village?

A.The first group. B.The second group.

C.The third group. D.All of the above.

3.How did the second group feel when they were walking to three quarters of the way?

A.Happy and excited. B.Bored but satisfied.

C.Tired and bored. D.Tired but happy.

4.We can infer from the passage that _________.

A.the scientist likes camping and making experiments

B.the second group walked a different way from the first group

C.the first group didn’t want to follow the guide because they could do it by themselves

D.the third group felt excited when they arrived at the village

5.The author of the passage wants to tell us that _________.

A.the scientist is a great person

B.the third group is the most excellent

C.people should have goals of achieving their dreams

D.the village is not as far as we think
