It was 8:30 and I was lying in the sun, listening to my CD.
Then my mum came out. She wanted me to go out with her. She told me about this place called Give Kids the World. It’s a special place for 35 to spend a vacation when a child had a life-threatening (致命的) illness. There were several jobs 36 did there, including gift giving and ice-cream 37 . Mum said I would enjoy it, but I expected this was a 38 job.
I got in the car and Mum drove to this place. There was a house in the village that we went into to do our work. I had to put some 39 on the back of a golf cart (高尔夫球车). Mum told me we were going to take a toy and an ice-cream to every child in the village.
We got to the first house and I knocked on the door and shouted, “Gift Giving”, and a woman answered it. Sitting in the middle of the living room was a boy in a wheelchair. I gave him the gifts, and his face lighted up with 40 . I walked out and thought, “That must be painful, unable to jump around.”
As I came into the second house with gifts, it seemed a little strange that the child didn’t 41 me. Her mum said she was deaf and only partially (部分地) sighted, so I needed to go and stand in front of her. When I 42 that, she became very excited and made a sign with her hands. Her mum told me this was the sign for “ 43 ”.
44 back in the cart, Mum told me these kids might not live to see tomorrow. Suddenly, I 45 I should be more thankful that I don’t have these illnesses — that I was not in the same 46 as these kids. I no longer wanted to be at home listening to my CDs. I would rather be doing this, maybe making a difference in these kids’ lives.

The bell for class rang. All the students took out their 1 , waiting for the teacher. Our Chinese teacher, Miss Liu, had told us before that we were going to write a composition 2 class.
A minute passed, and another, 3 the teacher didn't appear. We began to wonder what the matter with her was. Was she ill? Or had she forgotten about the class? 4 could tell. Soon some students began to study other subjects, some students began to talk and even made 5 .
About ten minutes later, the door opened and Miss Liu 6 came in, smiling. She didn't say sorry to the class. We felt 7 angry. The teacher often told us never to be late for class and said it was 8 manners to be late. She also said that if we were late, we should make an apology (道歉) 9 at once or after class. But now she was late and had kept the whole class waiting for such a long time and didn't even tell us the reason. It was unfair. At this moment, Miss Liu picked up a piece of chalk(粉笔) and 10 "Teacher IsLate" on the blackboard and said that was the topic of our composition today. All of us smiled and understood what the teacher meant.

From 8:30pm to 9:30 pm on Saturday, March 26th, 2011, a great number of people around the world turned off the lights for Earth Hour. It is a bit like an environmental New Year, providing a chance to help care for our earth and make people around the world learn how important it is to do that. What can do during this hour? We can do lots of run things in the dark, such as planning a candlelight dinner for our family or a group of friends, telling stories and singing songs with the kids and neighbors. What did you do for Earth Hour this year? Let’s share the Earth Hour stories. |
Emma I was on one of the mountains near the city and took photos of my city. It was great to watch the stars and the moon after a busy day so that I could enjoy this relaxing moment. |
Albert I work as a waiter in a restaurant. Our restaurant was still open even for Earth Hour as we got lots of reservations (预定) that night. So we spent the hour working by candlelight. And guess what? Our customers loved that and promised to come for next Earth Hour. |
Brandon I turned off the main power to my house and went for a walk for Earth Hour. It was a little strange to walk in the dark, but it was only for one hour. Just think of what it must have been like before the invention of the light bulb! |
Mary I invited my friends who know and support Earth Hour activities. We actually had a candlelight concert and we talked about the old happy days that we spent together in college. |
