I used to show great interest in music, dance and plays. I felt happy and I didn’t think I was different from anyone else.

Then one night at a high school dance, I overheard(偶然听到) someone say,“ That girl, what a pity she is blind.” Blind! That ugly word hurt me badly. Quickly I turned and called out, “Please don’t feel sorry for me. I’m having lots of fun.” But the fun was not to last.

After I went to college, I found a part-time job to make a living. I played the piano in bars to make a little money. But still I was always too poor to buy what I needed. That made me very upset.

I became more and more upset when my sisters and friends went off exciting dates while I could only stay on my own.

Then one day, I met a girl who lived two blocks away from my house. We got to know each other. She found out my sadness. "Stop knocking on closed doors. Keep up your beautiful music. You are trying too hard. Why not stop complaining and try your best to help each other?” She said.

The idea sounded fresh to me. So I decided to have a try. From then on, the girl and I often worked in a school for blind children. I liked to help them get through the hard times of life. Now my life is full of pleasure and comfort though the dark is still around me.
