题目内容

March 24th
This morning, we had a school trip to the Dashan Collection House, a building of two floors. It is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. We took the school bus and arrived at 9:00. When we entered the collection house, our eyes were caught by a collection of old photos of the town on the walls of the front hall. Those photos told us something about the history of the town. And then in the Art Room, we saw many pictures of the countryside. The colors of the flowers and trees are rich and bright. All at once, I lost myself in the beauty of nature.
Then we went upstairs. On the left, there were over one hundred different clocks. The oldest clock was already more than two hundred years old. To my surprise, the clocks all worked well and they could tell the right time. It was then ten o’clock, and some clocks produced different beautiful sounds. It seemed to be a concert. How amazing!
On the right there was also a stone collection. The stones were from all over the country. They were in different sizes, colors and shapes. Some looked like different kinds of animals. I really liked one stone that looked like a little monkey. It looked very nice.
The collections there were wonderful. So they stayed there until 11:30 in the morning. I had a great time and really liked the school trip.

Health experts predict that soon, more people will die from cancer than from AIDS, tuberculosis (结核病)and malaria combined(疟疾). They expect that by 2013, cancer will become the world’s leading cause of death.
Experts say one reason that more people are dying from cancer is because they are smoking cigarettes in developing countries. 40 percent of the world’s smokers are believed to live in China and India alone. Other things including high fat diets and fewer physical activities are also believed to be pushing the numbers more.
Rates (比率) of breast cancer (乳腺癌) in Japan, Singapore and South Korea are now 3 times what they were 40 years ago.
The W.H.O. report says that 12 million people will be found to have some kinds of cancer this year. It predicts that more than 7 million people will die early as a result of cancer. And more than 5 million of the new cancer cases will be in developing countries.
The number of cancer cases and deaths from cancer are expected to increase one percent each year. Experts are predicting the largest increases will be in China, Russia, and India.
Without new treatments, the W.H.O. says, the number of new cancer patients could reach 27 million a year by 2030. The number of deaths could reach 17 million a year.
A report in December said the number of men and women dying of cancer in the United States had dropped for the first time .The report in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute said the drop was mainly the result of fewer cases of lung(肺), prostate(前列腺) and colorectal(结肠) cancer in men. In women, it resulted from fewer cases of breast and colorectal cancer.
The American Cancer Society says governments can do things to help stop the increase in cancer cases and deaths. One idea is to provide poor and developing nations with vaccines(疫苗) that help to stop some cancer-causing infections (感染). One example of a cancer-causing infection is human papillomavirus (乳头瘤病毒). This virus(病毒) can cause cervical cancer in women.
Another suggestion is more support for cigarette-control programs. And the cancer society says health officials and governments should pay more in cancer research and early detection(检测).

Our earth is in trouble. Our drinking water is becoming dirtier, and the air is not as clean as before . People and factories are polluting the air, rivers and lakes and seas. You may think that there is nothing you can do to help. That’s not true. There are many things you can do to help the earth.
Cars burn gasoline. This will produce a lot of CO2 into the air. Some people believe that too much CO2 is making the earth warm than ever. (2) They think CO2 thins the clouds above us. The clouds keep us away from the strongest sunlight. So try to walk, ride a bike or take a bus. And if you drive a car, drive at a steady speed. This can save some gasoline.
The biggest energy use at home is for keeping (1)_________ or______ .So turn the air conditioner off when you don’t need to use it. Use lights that save energy.
Use fewer things that cannot be used again. When you buy something , consider those made from things that can be used again first.

Close your eyes. Think about a happy memory. What do you see? What do you smell? Do memories smell? Haraid Vogt and Avery Gilbert think so. Smell and memory are very important to them. Why? They sell smells.
Who do they the smells to? And how can they sella smell? Businesses come to Vogt and Gilbert for help. Vogt and Gilbert find a smell to go with the business’s product. For example, Vogt and Gilbert worked with and expensive hotel in New York City. They developed a smell like expesive cologne(科隆香水)for the hotel’s owners. Then they put it in the air of the hotel hallway. Why did they choose the smell of cologne? A lot of businessmen stay at that hotel. The hotel’s owners want their guests(客人)to feel like they are in an expensive men’s club. And rich men wear expensive cologne.
Using smell to sell things is not new. Bakers know that the smell of baking bread brings in customers. They always make sure that people on the street can smell the baking bread. Chocolate makers do the same thing. And of course perfume (香水)makers sell smells.
In the past, only the food and perfume businesses used smell to sell their products. But today, more and more businesses are trying it, from hotels to airlines(航空公司). Some companies put a special smell on the advertisement that they send to customers. For example, one car company uses a perfume on their booklet that smells like a new car.
But do smells really sell? The answer seems to by yes. Smells become a part of our  memories. And memory is important in sales, why? When customers remember the name of a product, they usually choose it again. But there are a lot of choices these days, so it isn’t easy to remember product names. That’s why smell is important. It helps people remember.
In the future, will different computers and televisions have different smells? Vogt and Gilbert think so. They are sure that one day, most businesses will use smell to sell.
