It rained for a week. Mary spent the days with Colin in his room， talking about India or gardens or Dick .He didn't look ill when she was there， but his face was still white and he never moved from the sofa.

Mary was surprised when she looked at her own face in the mirror(镜子) .She was different now. Martha noticed it too.

“You aren't as thin and yellow as before， ”she said. “It is the air of the moor(荒野) The fresh air is good for you.”

“If the fresh air is good for me， it must be good for Colin， too， ”Mary thought.

On the first morning when the sky was blue again， Mary woke up early.

“I can't wait?” she said. “I'm going to see the garden!”

She dressed quickly and went outside. The birds were singing as she ran towards the secret garden.

When she reached the door，she heard a strange sound. It was the “caw-caw” of a crow(乌鸦) .She looked up and saw a big blue-black bird on the wall. Then the bird opened his wings and flew away. When Mary went into the garden，Soot was siting：in a small apple tree. Dickon was there too. He was pulling up(杂草) .There was a red fox next to him.

“Oh, Dickon!” Mary cried. “I'm so happy!”

Dickon introduced Mary to the fox and the crow.

“The fox's name is Captain， ”he said， “and his crow is called Soot.”

Dickon walked around the garden with Soot on his shoulder and Captain next to him. Mary followed.
